AI GeneratedFox 2 is introducing an interactive, real-time election map for its website and app. Powered by direct data from the Associated Press, the tool allows users to track results for various races and ballot propositions at the county and city levels, providing a digital companion to the station's expert broadcast coverage.
Hey everyone, Root Barrage here.
You know what, Fox 2 is your election headquarters and we don't
just say that, we mean it by everything we do,
including how we're going to bring you results
during this consequential, monumental election.
Dylan Dahlberg is our executive producer and
Dylan, you have really become an expert on this.
You've taught me how to use this map.
This is a great tool that everyone at home can use as well.
Yeah, we'll be launching this on
the website and on our app on election day and the days after.
How it works is it feeds data
directly from the Associated Press at the same time,
speed, and way that we get it.
So anyone using it at home will get the exact same info we're getting
a few seconds before we actually can report it on TV
because we have to, you know,
get in your ear and let you know what's happening.
That's right. That's pretty exciting, though.
You're saying this is literally like real-time results
that people at home, right on their phones or their iPads,
they can just kind of operate it while we're doing the same thing.
And by the way, you want to stay with us
for our expertise, our coverage,
our consultants, our people that are going to be with us.
But the fact that you can actually have
the map at the palm of your hands
and touch these pieces.
And at the exact moment it happens,
you'll know on the screen and on your phone.
Give us an example.
Yeah, so let's say we're,
right now we're looking at the Senate race.
Obviously there's no results right now
because it's about, you know,
several days till the election.
But let's say you start looking at the map
and you'll see a county flash white.
That means there's new data coming in.
Let's say Oakland County flashed white.
We'd click it and it would zoom into
the exact current stats in Oakland County.
You'd be able to compare the votes for El Sayed,
Rogers, all the candidates in this race.
You can go back out to the state.
let's say you want to get a closer look
at our area you tap southeast michigan it'll zoom you
down wow to you know this dozens about
a dozen counties here that we're really really focusing
so you say okay wait a minute uh dylan you
and i are talking a lot about what's happening right now
uh in ingham county sure that's where
of course michigan state university is so many college
students are they going to be turning out what's going
to happen over there you hit ingham county
boom it pops up and it'll give you the results
in real time exactly how many people at that point
have voted. And then if we're trying to compare,
you know, sometimes the Senate and the governor
and the SOS go in place, we could just tap to the governor.
And then also you're looking at
the governor's race results here instead,
because we're following Senate, all 13 U.S.
House districts, the governor, attorney general,
secretary of state and the two statewide ballot
propositions. Now, I find that really great
because obviously you have a lot going on.
We have so many important races. You talk about these proposals.
We'll be talking more about that
on our newscast as well. But, you know,
for instance, the attorney general race, I was just
at the uh the the rally for uh president uh trump
that he was leading with republicans and
the attorney general candidate was there
the democratic attorney general candidate was
elsewhere in the state and so you go hey how
are they doing let's say up north for if you look at
grand traverse county what's going
on over there boom it shows you the map and gives you real-time
data again the reason that dylan
and i are not showing you any numbers is because there are no
numbers yet but there will be on election night you're going
to see him right here what we can do
is we can actually look at a previous election
to not just compare the results,
but also to show you what it looks like
when it's a little more colorful.
So let's look at the 2020 Senate race.
You know, you're actually going to see colors
when votes are coming in.
And you can always simplify it
and make it just straight red and blue.
But right now we're showing you the, you know,
the varying degrees of how far each county is
to the left or the right.
That's pretty cool.
You can actually see where people are leaning
just as a whole state.
But then again, you can say,
okay, let's take a look at what's going on
in Livingston County.
And if we tap on that, boom,
It shows you in 2020 what happened in Livingston County,
a red county clearly going to John James against Gary Peters back
then with 61 percent of the vote.
Yeah. And the reason it's showing you a gray one here
is because ideally we'd have election night results
and you can compare exactly what the drift is between 2020 and now.
And something that's new this year,
if I go back to the live view for only one county in the entire country
is the Associated Press preparing to feed live city by city data.
And that's Wayne County. So you can in this map,
zoom all the way down to Wayne County for all these races,
except for the house, because houses don't go by counties, of course.
But that's pretty fascinating, because when you look at Wayne County,
obviously, there's there are many people who are asking the question,
hey, in within Wayne County, who voted what?
There's a huge battle going on, as we know, between Rogers
and Al Sayed. Mike Rogers has been spending a lot of time in Detroit.
Al Sayed has also been spending time in the city,
but elsewhere within Wayne County, you could say,
hey, what's going on in Garden City right now?
boom garden city pops up
and you can actually see how each person uh had fared in that county
yeah and when you launch this on your on your computer
on your phone on the app uh it's made
for horizontal it's made for vertical you can take it
with you so what you can do you can use
it as a companion while you're watching
the show like hbo has those companion apps and podcasts
you can while you're watching us
because we're going to be on all night long oh yeah you can
follow along there's a chance you might hear the see
the results of this race before we're able to
even communicate it to you
because you're going to get it as fast as there's no one in the world
who's going to get the results as fast as this map
with the exception of people who are literally at
the Associated Press pressing the button
and as the Associated Press calls these critical races
in our state we're going to be unpacking it
with experts political science professors political
analysts and our staff of reporters and anchors
who are spread across the entire region so we're
going to continue to watch this with the watchful eyes
of our executive producer Dylan Dahlberg as
well and of course our tools that we have in front
of us we hope that you'll of course be with us on
election day and election night
