Tinubu's Reform Agenda: Minister defends Policies Amid Economic Hardship
The PBAT door-to-door movement is set to unveil a book
on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's reform agenda on November 6.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Minister of Women Affairs,
Iman Suleiman Ibrahim, defended the administration's economic policies,
insisting that the reforms are beginning
to yield results despite the hardship faced by Nigerians.
to the next generation, but he chose to confront it.
He chose to be the reformer. Those choices
came at a cost. The Nigerian families felt it.
No one in this government takes that sacrifice
lightly, least of all Mr. President.
But I say to you today, this conviction that the
sacrifice is not in vain.
The results are being shown, and they're beginning to show.
Our external reserves are no longer very, very tight.
Our external reserves now are stronger.
Inflation is easing and confidence
in the Nigerian economy is returning.
The worst is behind us and the gains are ahead of us.
It is pertinent to also note, ladies and gentlemen of the press,
that the reform has a human face.
Through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, the NELFund,
Mr. President has opened the doors of higher education
the children of ordinary families,
so that no young Nigerian is denied a future because of fees.
Under the new tax laws, low-income earners
and small businesses are protected,
so that those with the least are asked
to carry the least of the burden.
And with financial autonomy for local governments,
resources now flow closer to communities where they actually reside.
Let me now speak personally. As a woman and as a minister entrusted
with the welfare of Nigerian women and families
and children on the vulnerable, I judge every reform by one test.
Does it reach the women in the market,
the girls in the classroom, and the families at the margins?
On that test, I can say with pride that our leader,
our father, Mr. President, has kept women at the heart
of the renewed hope agenda of this administration.
From social protection, the richest poor,
and the vulnerable households, and many of them headed by women,
to the opportunities now opening for our daughters in education
and enterprise, ladies and gentlemen of the press,
this administration does not ask Nigerians from blind fate.
It asks to be judged on results
and it holds itself accountable for them.
Where the burden has fallen hardest,
we will keep doing more to lift it up
until every Nigerian family feels
the gains of the reforms at its own table.
And you all agree that the first four years
of Mr. President was a renewed hope,
rebuilding trust and restoring confidence.
Renewed hope 2.0, the next four years,
is all about reforms to prosperity.
That is why, on this note,
I only welcome the Courage to Reform, the Courage to Reform
Architecture of President Bola Tinubu, GCFR
Beyond 2027 Statecraft Vision of a National
Renewal, brought forward by the PBAT door-to-door movement.
It tells the story behind the boldest decision
of His Excellency's administration, our
administration, from subsidy removals to tax reforms to NLNG fund,
local government autonomy
and the reform of our security architecture.
Above all, he makes a case I share completely.
National Renewal demands a leader
who looks beyond the next election to the next generation.
In his excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Nigeria has a leader,
a leader that will take us to the promised land.
He presented and unveiled
on Thursday, 5th of November, 2026,
at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Center, Abuja,
with our leader, our father, His Excellency,
President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, as a special guest of honour.
Alhaja Aliko Dangote is the chief launcher,
and Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu is the co-chief launcher.
And High Chief Government Ekpemupolo Tompolo,
is going to be the chief host.
And the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,
His Excellency, Nyesom Wike,
is going to be our host
on the 5th of November at the
Bola Tinubu Conference Centre.
We also have in attendance the
Senate President, the Speaker of the House of
Representatives, the Secretary of the Government of the
Federation, State Governors,
other Ministers and Distinguished Leaders
have all been invited and
attendance is strictly by invitation.
And as we approach
and as 2027 approaches,
the national debate will grow louder.
Let it also grow wiser
and let it reset on facts
I urge you, all the press,
to carry those facts to every corner of our beloved country.
Our leader and father have shown the courage to reform.
It is now our shared duty to see these reforms through.
Nigeria is on the road of national renewal and we will not turn back.
I thank you for coming, I thank you for listening,
and I'm happy to take any other questions from now.
