Customer complained his system froze up, and sounded like it was running when it should’ve been off. I found contactor stuck, replaced it and saw head pressures were high, removed panels and washed coil.

Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe video demonstrates the diagnosis and repair of a large residential package HVAC unit. The technician identifies a welded contactor as the cause of the system running continuously despite the thermostat being off, which leads to freezing and potential compressor overload. After confirming the fault, the technician replaces the part and discusses the pros and cons of hiring help in the HVAC business.
What I'm about to show you,
this is one of those really big green package units that
came out, I don't know, about 20 years ago.
This thing's, I have a 5x8 trailer
and this package unit would take up almost all of that
trailer.
This thing is huge.
It's one of the bigger residential package units that I've seen.
I've seen some Lennox ones that are pretty big, but this one's big.
you know so I'll show you what was wrong
with it in spite of its problems this
thing's still cool and just fine start
bypassing I think I know what might be
the
problem
well hopefully you don't
have any major repairs
on it until it's time
to replace
uh-huh they're getting expensive
prices recently have gone up
are you seeing what i'm seeing
ain't got no power but that contactor's pulled
in which um means it's probably welded shut
which will in cool mode cause it to freeze up
and if the power if the thermostat's turned off
cause the compressor to go out and start thermal overload
so i'm just going to check it and make
sure we got no power just replace
that contact just turn it off
yeah i'm still gonna check
yeah that's stuck that's
why it kept running even
though the thermostat
was off
yo if i get a vacuum and vacuum
that crap out all right
that contactor
is stuck now we're fixing
to replace it how good a job i did
showing this thing being stuck
but we're fixing to replace it
it's
harder
to
do
some
of
the
work
so
i've
had
to
slow
down
but
The business has
been good.
Tech's working with you?
What's
the hassle
with you?
Well, the hassle,
I'm not as stressed.
Right, I feed them first
before you get to eat.
There are advantages to having somebody helping you
and there are advantages
to doing it by yourself
There are many a calls I've been on.
I've been like, it sure would be nice
if I could send somebody else in.
So how do you handle when you've got a replacement
upstairs when you did our two-minute done?
A friend of mine has his own HVAC company as well,
and he helps me out with that.
And
he's
more
than
happy
to
do
it.
Strap this up, got that in there, let's turn around.
