Alabama's 18 consecutive years
with a first-round NFL draft pick is one of the most impressive
streaks in college football.
It is going to end this year.
I believe that Alabama does not have
a first-round NFL draft pick on the roster, and the big
boards largely back me up.
Devin Tompkins is the only one in CBS Sports Top 32.
He comes in at number 15 right now.
Devin Tompkins is not the number 15 prospect in the country.
I don't see it one bit.
You look, yes, he's got the athleticism.
he's got the physical traits he's got
the strength he's got the size he has the versatility that
every NFL team looks for on that defensive front
but he doesn't have the production to go along
with it like it's just when you look
at the way he's risen right you had an initial rise over the
first few weeks of the season which made sense
because of how he was producing but then over
these past couple weeks as the production stalled he's continued
to rise so where does this rising
in the stock coming from it feels like a bit
of an overreaction that will be corrected over
really the next couple months provided Tompkins
doesn't start producing again at least if he
starts producing again that's a different story
but I don't see it happening at this point in the
season and you look at Yonze Pierre he's a guy
who's been kind of punished with his stock falling
a little bit due to a lack of getting home lack
of finishing plays you have Zabian Brown who
really, Zabian is who we thought he was.
I think he's a nice football player. I think he's a second
round pick who goes on to have a solid NFL career.
Don't think he's anything can't miss. And Ryan
Coleman Williams right now,
I get a lot of it's out of his control with the injury. Could we be
looking at a world where he doesn't even go into the draft?
He returns to Alabama. I think it's
very possible given what he'd be making, you know,
as a senior at Alabama in a year with the
opportunity to truly make a statement
and become a first round pick in the future in year two of
the Keelan Russell offense there's no one else
on the team right the only other candidates coming in
were Austin Mack if he potentially had
a you know really Ty Simpson's season or Bray Hubbard if he
took a step forward Bray Hubbard hasn't
so you have four candidates it doesn't look like it'll
be Ryan so I'm going to cut it down to three I think Pierre
and Tompkins are probably your most
likely but we need production to come from those two
that they haven't shown so far so i think the
streak will end and Alabama doesn't have
a player taken in day one of the NFL draft in April
