The Flames would REGRET this...

With the Calgary Flames on a hot streak
and certain players playing really well,
members of the Sea of Red have
of course suggested trading players that are playing well away in
order to sell high. The main name now is Joel Farabee,
but the Flames would regret trading him
if it happened now. We're going to get to all
that more in this video, but first I want to
welcome you to Flames Digest. I'm Mark Griffith.
If you're new around here and you love the Flames,
make sure to subscribe so you can stay up to date
on all the latest news, updates, reports,
and rumors revolving around your Calgary Flames.
We would love to welcome you to the Flames Digest
family it boils down to one specific thing for me
and it's that not everyone needs to go as Joel
Farabee sparks a trade debate mostly
on Twitter right now within the Sea of Red and it's it's a
little bit interesting it's just I think
the Flames would regret it if they made a trade now
now there are quite a few people talking about it the main tweet
though was from Sea of Red Central
just because it's more of a prominent Flames account
or at least an account that you know
just focuses on the Flames
so Sea of Red Central said i know people are talking about moving Frost
and White Cloud and they should but i think they
also need to consider moving Farabee as well
nothing personal love the guy
but he's playing very well you might just get a haul for him if
this continues Cooley too so he's he's saying they should trade Frost
and White Cloud but those guys
are already involved
in the trade rumors now they're saying trade Farabee for sure and trade
Cooley just because they're playing well
which is just insane this team needs to hold on to some
people we can't just keep recycling
and going back to these 18 19 20 year olds what are we
you know Leo DiCaprio and his in his dating life it just it does
not make sense to trade these guys
right now maybe eventually not right now one response
to this came from Ivan here he says
some people on X are suggesting
the Flames trade Joel Farabee he's only 26 years old before trading
Farabee I would trade Backlund, Strow, Middleton,
Sharon Govich and there's other players you can
put in there probably I mean if you can you trade Azari
but a White Cloud maybe a Frost personally
I don't really want to trade either of those guys
but Farabee it's just I don't know he just fits
the future in a way as Darren Haynes here says
we just finished witnessing the type of impact
Blake Coleman had and his importance at age 30, 31, 32, 33, 34.
Joel Farabee won't turn 30 until
february of calgary's third season
in scotia place he absolutely can be part of the club's
rebuilt future and i'd argue he should
be so we're clearly seeing you know a lot of people thinking
we should hang on to farabee yes he's not exactly you know young
and spry anymore but he's still
relatively young and can absolutely be part
of that bridge as we get through this rebuild so if
we get into a little bit of this here you know he's got
his strengths he's got his weaknesses
so his power play production connects him directly
to calgary's most dangerous unit which is going
crazy right now i'll have more on that later in this video
but he's valuable for the power play
he's creating goals for teammates
a useful skill beside calgary's young scores he's setting up
these young guys in order for them
to develop more keep them around he's getting shots through
rather than relying only
on passing he scored some goals he's he's getting shots through that's
what we want to see maybe there's a weakness
in the actual finishing he's definitely more of a
playmaker but that's fine again if you can set up
those younger guys get them more confident get
their numbers going their production
and their development most importantly i think that's what's
really really great another thing
is the contract you still got a couple years i mean obviously
you know including this one uh
so it's not imminent that you need to trade him away but
you can absolutely sign him to a big deal it's
not like he's gonna be going after huge money
because it's not like his offensive stats
are really going to be you know amazing by the end
of the year they could very well hit 60 65 70 points
which would be pretty nuts to be honest
could happen and i know those players now
that hit 40 points are demanding 15 mil a year but still
it's not gonna end up being a crazy deal afterwards
so you know might as well as Ryan Pike puts here
again showing kind of his value through 10 games
the flames have four wins the third best
power play the fifth best penalty kill
and Joel Farabee is leading the team in points not only
that he's been excellent on the power play
and kills those penalties as well so what it all comes
down to is the case for keeping him keep Farabee
and you keep some perspective here at 26 he can
bridge the rebuild the production helps
the young core develop 10 games do not establish a new
scoring baseline so not even sure what his value
is why would you trade someone away who you aren't
exactly sure what their trade value is and then revisit
his future before his contract expires
meaning you can probably try
and re-sign him before trading him but that's essentially what
it comes down to for Farabee again if he
if they trade him away now i think they might live to
regret it now let's get into tonight's game
as the flames look to stay hot and they're once again
playing at home this homestand has been awesome
so far uh but 6:30 p.m. the flames take on the
Leafs always fun to bring in an original 16
but i mean the leafs have probably the biggest fan base
So there's always the chance there's going
to be more Leafs fans than Flames fans,
which, I mean, just is true.
But it should be a fun one either way.
In terms of the lineup, there are some crazy things to go over here.
So if we look at this, a couple updates.
First one is on Michael Backlund.
So Michael Backlund was on the ice
for morning skate with a regular jersey.
He's missed the last two games with an upper body injury.
You know, maybe the Flames two best games of the season.
That's interesting to note.
But he'll be a game time decision.
So I'm not saying right here,
right now that he is playing or isn't playing.
If he is, obviously he just slots right back into his spot.
If not, Ben Jones will probably be in.
Now, the goaltending is what it really came down to.
And it's interesting that Devin Cooley will
be starting tonight again against Toronto.
It's his fourth consecutive start.
Huska is riding the hot hand.
Cooley has been awesome between the pipes.
He's been better in the post-game interviews.
And kind of got that recognition, actually, league-wide,
as he was named the NHL's second star of the week.
I mean, what's he got to do to be the first star of the week?
drop more generational quotes
and not allow a single puck through but either way huge
congratulations to Cooley for that one well well deserved
if we get into the all-time history now
between the Flames and Toronto because I guess
it's just what I do in all these primers for the
games um it's honestly an interestingly close matchup here
so in Calgary's franchise history
while the Flames franchise history there's 69 wins
72 regulation losses 12 ties and six uh Daryl
Sutter points in there but that includes
when we were back in Atlanta so since 1972 the last 10
though have been really bad for us we're one six
and three in the last 10 against the Leafs
Toronto has also won the last eight meetings
which is funny because we just played Detroit
who had won the previous eight meetings and we won
so is that a good omen of things to come it
might be it's actually been a long time since
we've won against Toronto as well well I mean
as I just said it's been eight games
but that brings us all the way back to February of 2022
2 was our last win there as you can see it was a 5-2 win since
then it's just been loss after
loss after loss these are your last five as well all
in regulation as well which is not good looks
for us but hopefully we can obviously end that streak one guy
who looks excited to play here
someone who was born here
is William Nylander, William Nylander could he be a future Flame who
knows but William Nylander spoke on the final well
his final game at the Saddledome unless he gets
traded here during the season he says it'll
be a fun one this building's got some character i was
here when i was born watching my dad play
so it's been a long time the new one will be really nice
but it'll be a fun exciting last game
to be honest he usually does play well against the Flames and
especially in Calgary so he'll be a guy to keep
an eye on i guess on the other team if things start
not going our way now back to the goalie situation both goalies
are rested able to go Cooley stats
are way better this season
and like i said you know both goalies were probably ready to go for
this one and Huska once again chose Cooley.
It'll probably take until a tough back-to-back or a
really bad Cooley start for Huska to go back to Wolf,
but you gotta kind of start feeling a little
bad for Wolf. Once again, key to this game
though is the special teams because we're just incredible
so far. Fourth best power play in the league right now at 32%,
which is crazy. Farabee leading the
way. Coronado's actually been dishing loads
of helpers on the power play as well, which is great
to see and then the penalty kill White Cloud's
been tearing up the minutes Backlund if he's in
we know how he can do but that that's again what it'll come down
to but it's mostly that first
power play unit of Frost, Farabee, Coronado,
Gridden and Parekh they were insane against Detroit
they've been really good lately against Minnesota
against Carolina it's just been good hockey from
the first power play unit kind of unexpectedly
but let's hope that can continue what it's come
down to in a way as Darren Haynes points out once again
for that top power play unit is new faces
more movement and way better results
that's what's going on it's you know that's why it's so
different from the past couple years
which is really nice to see so feel free to make your
pick does calgary keep it rolling tonight a yes
the flames win their fourth straight or b toronto
extends its series streak we don't want to get it to nine
but uh who knows that may just happen
now let's get into the comment of the day to wrap up
this video as we love to do here on the channel
comes from yesterday's video of course
and this is a good one here from flames first here i'll make
it a little better uh he says this is the best
the flames power play i've ever seen in the past
three years well he said he'd never said ever he said i've seen
in the past three years the
sustainability is another thing
but our power play was never supposed to be in the top of the nhl at
any point this year the thing i noticed was the skill
and the chemistry between players there we
know frost and farabee have the chemistry like i said coronado's
been dishing but it's great to see
i mean Parekh and Graydon have a little chemistry as well
but it looks like they're all gelling
together so keep them together remember
when it was a debate of who would be the top power play
unit quarterback and a lot of people
we're saying Nemetz that debate's well and truly over so
hopefully this unit can keep it going
because that has made the games really exciting to watch
thank you so much for watching this video please subscribe

have a wonderful rest of your day
