Life as a fan of the Calgary Flames is complicated,
but with riding a two-game winning streak,
our prospects playing out of their minds,
and some positive injury news, this is pretty
much as perfect as it gets during what
is expected to be a painful rebuild.
We're going to get to all that more in this
video, but first I want to welcome you to
Flames Digest.
I'm Mark Griffith.
If you're new around here and you love the
Flames, make sure you subscribe so you can
stay up to date on all the latest news, updates,
reports, and rumors revolving around your
Calgary Flames.
We would love to welcome you to the Flames Digest family.
let's dive in with what is everyone's favorite topic
and start with the prospects because Calgary
prospects are producing in the NCAA right now.
Not only the NCAA, it just seems like that's where
at least half of our prospects are currently playing,
which isn't a bad thing. That's obviously
a very good place to develop.
We've seen some really good players come out of college hockey
over the past few years here.
And I'm going to start it off with, you know, kind of, I guess,
our college pipeline and then get into what
the Flames actually themselves are at least on social
media because they did a great job
but if we look at just the NCAA right now this is just a handful
of players but they are popping off Whittenbach
as we know it's kind of our star boy I'm really glad
that the last time I mentioned him a lot
of you did back him up in the comments based off what
we were seeing on social media otherwise people
saying like he doesn't defend he doesn't back
check he's soft that kind of thing that's
not what we need him to do we are a team that is in need of
goals we will need goals and points
when the time comes that's what he's there for but he currently
has 11 points in five games played led
the nation last year in points we're hoping he can do the
same this year Russian Karlovs have seven points
and three points respectively each in
five games played at UND so far Karlovs looked
really really good last night kind of doing
i mean he had a couple bad plays
but he looked you know very good just based off the highlights
i didn't watch the game but based off
the highlights he he was a monster in more than
one way Michigan State Hexter has four points Potter just two points
in three games so I'd like
to see a little bit more out of Colin Potter I
hope he doesn't disappoint us too much looks like
he's still trying to get into the groove of things after
that bad injury last year but glad Hextall's
over a point per game Muse at Michigan he's got four points
in six games I could see him very well
being a player that's involved in a lot of trade rumors just
because we have so many players at
that position that are maybe developing a little bit better
which is unfortunate and then Hoskin
at Merrimack he's got four points in four games as well
so someone to kind of take note of not
expecting him to necessarily be a star at any point
but still good to of course you know pay
attention to that now the inspiration
for this video did actually come from the Flames social
media they did it kind of a future watch
um and they went over you know a bunch of different
leagues i guess is the best way to put it
and they started with the CHL uh maybe i do actually
like it bigger in this window uh
so Katalitsky he's got seven points right now with Sarnia in
the OHL we have a few guys as well in the dub chase harrington
who i'm going to be speaking about in a
second here quite a bit he's got 15 points
with the Spokane Chiefs right now he is going crazy
phillips has four points joey aginla with six points
that's him on the left there uh and then
both Bowdler and Jacob Leander have three points
and two points respectively so clearly
there's one outlier there and it is harrington
but you know not to disrespect Kadylitsky and
Joe Agin as well they're doing really well
and Phillips big defenseman defensive guy with four
points as well as great to see um just going further along
with the international skaters now
Stokely, he's got four points
um in the SHL right now i know he's kind of bouncing around a
little bit he's doing well Shkelis Lamov
who i spoke about in the last time we spoke about
prospects video he has 17 points right now got
that big promotion to the top league he is looking
absolutely excellent could be the steal
of this past draft after certainly Whitnock
was the one before it's it's very similar
to that in terms of the point production just
obviously very different competition they're playing against
and Yatman sorry Jan Mat
Vako Jan Man uh he's got four points as well
so someone to keep an eye on for sure uh next up they
went over the NCAA skaters i know i showed a few there
but uh there's lots to talk about so
Hextall who we mentioned Max Curran disappointingly zero points uh
with UMass I don't know if he's
hurt or anything I actually haven't been paying attention
to all at him but I hope he can pick
it up Whitnock as we saw has 11 Hoskin 4 Potter
2 Reshney 7 uh Cade Liddler is added into this
from ASU he's got three points uh Barabanov has three points at UMass
so clearly he's able to
produce at least uh Carl's as we know is three points Jameson
and Aiden Lane both on zero which
is a little disappointing Muse with four
and then Luke Misa also with a disappointing just two
points but overall we have a lot of guys again
the major outlier here in a positive light is
Wittenbach and Reschney playing against better opposition
this year seven points he is looking
absolutely excellent probably
a guy I don't talk about enough despite it feeling like I do talk
about him quite a bit if we take a look
at the goalies now Yegor Yegorov doing awesome down at
miami he has .909 save percentage tray ball i would say maybe
the most disappointing prospect
right now i think we saw him more on a video
not too long ago pointed out his stats and was
saying he's been a disappointment
and he has just an .850 save percentage at UMass so far this year
hopefully he can get it together and play a little bit better
because we want to see some monster
numbers from him as he should be our number one goalie prospect
a little bit disappointing from
here and another guy who has to be talked about
is over in russia Daniil Chek sorry Cheklev
he's got a .923 save percentage right now it's
funny it always seems like those guys have such
high save percentages when they play over in russia
and then it doesn't translate to the
north american game but obviously we hope it does for him
when if and when he does decide to make
the jump but the main prospect for me
and the flames themselves once again they released a huge
article on chase harrington written by chris wall
so shout out to him but the headline awesome
headline writes these are my brothers after
extended Flames camp, Harrington leading by example
over in Spokane and again he was unexpectedly the guy
who stayed around the longest essentially at
the Flames training camp
and got to develop like crazy after being just drafted back in June and
i'm not going to go over the whole article again it's
a really long one but i do have three screen
grabs of it because there are some awesome quotes in here
so for Harrington the experience in
Calgary was a confidence booster he said it
was important being able to prove to myself that I
can compete with those guys he said over the phone this week
when asked about his time in the Stampede
City I learned a lot from those guys
and I'm bringing that back to Spokane now and brought it
Harrington is the reigning WHL player of the week
and as his Chiefs prepare for a weekend
home set against their division rivals
from Portland the product of Prince George BC sits
tied for fourth among the junior circuit's top scorers
with 15 points six goals nine assists all
while helping Spokane race out of the gate to an eight
and one record to start the season so we
hope that just continues like crazy for him both
the you know offensive production the leading the
leading by example being a great captain is what we love to see as well
and then obviously we hope
his team is pretty successful as well shout out
to any Spokane Chiefs fans if you're watching this
video um to continue he's got a pretty good idea
of what Hockey Canada's brass is looking for out
of him too obviously in relation to potentially playing
for the World Junior team uh this upcoming
holiday season said i think i've just got
to be myself harrington said of his world junior
aspirations there's a lot of good players on that team
but maybe there's not a lot of guys that can
play the game like me playing those hard minutes succeeding
on the penalty kill so kind of again
he can do it all and he's very you know gritty
as well i think just buying into that role knowing
those first round picks will be on the power play I can bring
a lot more to the team than that but
it's just about showing that it can help the team win
so he's selling himself a little bit here but
obviously he wants to uh you know still be one
of those classic hockey guys and give the yeah I just
want to help the team win essentially um just to wrap it up here says
but for now uh for the team
he leads in Spokane finding more success at the WHL level
is priority number one it's been so nice
to be back in Spokane said Harrington this is my team
these are my brothers so it's nice to be
back competing with them it's been a blast
and again we hope that very much does continue for
Mr. Harrington here now let's get into tonight's game
as the Flames are back home once again as
Calgary hosts Detroit in the '04 throwback jerseys for the first time
which will be super cool to see
so this one goes at 8 p.m tonight a late one on a Saturday
but the Dome should be rocking always
nice to play against an original six opponent
if you're a viewer of the channel for a long time you
know for whatever reason I just don't like Detroit
so it'd be nice to get another win here
but again should be super cool they're debuting
these awesome '04 throwback jerseys they they're
only wearing them four times this year against
the four opponents they played back in '04 and
Detroit is the team I believe we played
in the second round of that playoff run so that should
be super cool to see them debut kind of got
a little bit more info on it so the '04 look returns
tonight as Detroit is in Calgary at 8 p.m. It's
the first game in the '04 throwbacks. The Black
Flaming C with Blasty on the shoulder patches
Just a gorgeous jersey. I know it's not everyone's
favorite uniform. I'm kind of biased because it's,
you know, that's what I grew up on. So I just love
those. I love the Blasty on the shoulders over the flags
First of four throwback dates this
season, as we know. And can Calgary end Detroit's eight-game streak?
And some people might be saying
eight-game streak. What are you talking about?
They're not on an eight-game winning streak.
they're on an eight game winning streak against
the flames actually as we have the flames versus
red wings history here we have
a better record than i thought i thought we'd have an awful record
against detroit just based off how good they were in the 90s
and 2000s stuff i know they were
horrible in the 80s maybe that helped when we were good
but we're 77 wins we have 79 losses 16 ties
and two overtime losses that includes
the atlanta flames years the playoffs separately we have six
wins and eight losses which again
is better than i thought i thought we'd just get destroyed by
in Detroit back in the 2000s all the time but obviously not in 04.
So Calgary's last win was
a 3-0 win way back on March 12, 2022.
It's been well over three and a half years so the Flames
have lost all eight meetings since with one of those in overtime
so 0-7-1. So from 2022-23 through
to this season Detroit has won eight straight
and Calgary's been outscored 32-12 across those
eight meetings so for whatever reason Detroit has had
our number lately hopefully we can get that
going and maybe we'll have a little more clarity
with some lineup notes here um neither of these
guys will be playing tonight
but it's very interesting to note that it's nice to see that
Jonathan Huberdeau was skating
and taking shots prior to the morning skate first time we've seen
him officially on the ice
so we might have Huberdeau back in the lineup uh sooner rather than later
which will make some people happy
and some people not so happy they do not want Suneel to lose
his spot but hopefully it'll be someone else uh Michael Backlund
was also out there before the
skate which is good to see they are in those yellow jerseys
so i don't think they'll be playing
tonight i mean maybe Backlund but i really don't think
so uh but good good to know that some of our
older fellas are getting healthy again
which is great to see in terms of the goaltending now
uh devin cooley will be starting again tonight
so huska riding the hot hand once again no wolf
which is funny because at fiery bread man here
puts rip Dustin Wolf's kipper gear till at least
December Dustin Wolf got these awesome pads
that he's been breaking in lately to wear in one of
these oh four throwback games it's
not happening tonight Devin Cooley has won the starting job
once again which isn't a surprise
and it's just too bad that Wolf doesn't get to wear those
sweet pads on that awesome uniform
but hopefully we will get to see those later in December the
next time they do wear them and it's funny too
because both flames goalies are pretty well rested
once again so cooley obviously he has had two starts
in the last seven days whereas wolf also
has but cooley has made the last two
and those have been wins um i don't know if no he's zero
sorry wolf has zero in the last seven days yeah
cooley has both wolf has zero we have not played
that many games so both goalies are technically fresh
but again cooley should have been much
better and has earned that starting job right now
which is which is totally fair we will see what
how husker kind of decides
and for me again just like against minnesota the main theme will be the
special teams that's what it all comes down
to for the Flames right now their power play is fifth
best in the league the penalty kill is sixth best
so if they can continue that going then you know
they might have a chance to win tonight Detroit
they're funny they start off really slow they've
a little bit better and clearly they have our number
so it should be a good game no matter what
now let's get into the comment of the day to wrap up
this video as we love to do here on the channel
comes from yesterday's video of course
and if you don't agree with this comment you're probably in
the wrong place you shouldn't be on this channel
but it's so simple here all it reads is go flames
with a kind of flame emoji
and then the mind exploding emoji as well which is great to see
That's all it really is.
Super simple, two words and a couple of emojis, go flames.
That's what it's all about.
Thank you so much for watching this video.
Please subscribe like you saw here today
and have a wonderful rest of your day.
