In a packed Edmonton funeral home, a fallen soldier remembered.
Sergeant Morgan Wong, one of four soldiers killed at CFB Wainwright
after a fire ripped through the base during
a military exercise last weekend.
On behalf of the loyal Edmonton Regiment,
I hope these words do justice to the soldier,
leader, son, brother, husband,
and friend that so many of us came to know and respect.
Wong, who served with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment,
was supposed to start a new position with the RCMP,
but delayed his start to go on his second deployment to Latvia.
Sergeant Morgan Wong embodied the motto of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment,
fears no foe.
The service included Buddhist elements at the request of his family.
Morgan knew the risks involved in joining the armed forces,
yet he never faltered in his commitment
to serving and protecting others.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Wong joined the Canadian Armed Forces
as a reservist at 17.
and later volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters
and St. John Ambulance.
It's so hard to lose somebody who's given so much to so many people.
But I'm glad that community was able
to come together to celebrate his life.
The tragedy at Wainwright, hitting home across the country.
On Saturday, the body of 23-year-old Private Sean Farrell
was transported from Saskatoon to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
in a procession accompanied by first responders.
Friends and family holding a vigil Sunday.
It's overwhelming to see how much support there is,
how many people come to the house,
all the prayers, food, messages, overwhelming and very, very thankful.
That support helping the families of the soldiers who died
and the dozens more still in hospital,
many still in critical condition.
