James Kaufman, World News Report today.
Trump proposes $1.5 trillion
in additional tax dollars to be spent on the war.
U.S. President Donald Trump is asking Congress
to boost military spending another $1.5 trillion in 2027,
the largest such request in history,
while demanding cuts to domestic spending on social programs,
According to AP, the White House released details on the desired
spending increase on Friday as part of Trump's 2027 budget proposal.
The proposal comes amid the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran,
costing U.S. taxpayers over $11 billion each week it continues.
Last month, the Pentagon proposed receiving
an additional $200 billion to backfill munitions
and supplies used in the war, which has already killed 3,527 Iranians,
including around 1,600 civilians and at least 244 children.
While the White House is demanding huge sums for war,
Trump's proposal would reduce non-defense
spending by 10% nationwide,
primarily shifting some of the responsibilities for social programs
to the state and local level governments.
We're fighting a war here.
We can't take care of daycare,
Trump said at a private White House event on Wednesday.
It's not possible for us to take care of daycare, Medicare,
Medicaid, and all these other individual things he said.
They can do it on a state basis.
You can't do it on a federal basis.
No, not when you're spending every penny
on a war that no one wanted to be in.
According to AP, quote,
The president's annual budget, more broadly,
is considered a reflection of the administration's values,
The budget does not carry the force of the law.
For Trump's spending proposal to take effect,
Congress would have to approve it.
The U.S. is already heavily in debt,
with the federal government spending nearly $2 trillion
more than it receives in tax receipts each year.
This year, the national debt surpassed $39 trillion,
while the debt-to-gross domestic product ratio now exceeds 120 percent,
surpassing the peak reached after World War II.
While Trump ran for president on a platform of ending U.S. wars abroad
and putting the needs of U.S. citizens first,
he has instead prioritized initiating foreign wars
in support of Israel's project
to expand its territory and secure its safety in the Middle East.
What is going on here?
While the war on Iran is providing a boom to a certain few
U.S. and Israeli weapons firms who stand to earn hundreds of billions,
if not more, in additional profits, the rest of the country suffers.
After meeting with major defense contractors at the White House
in early March, Trump said the companies had agreed to quadruple
production of their very best and sophisticated defense systems
that can repel ballistic missiles such as Patriot missile batteries
and terminal high-altitude air defense THAAD interceptor platforms.
This is crazy. Each THAAD interceptor missile,
the missile alone, costs $12.7 million.
Each Patriot PAC-3 interceptor
missile costs $3.7 million.
The interceptors have been used in large quantities
to intercept Iran's retaliatory missiles
and drone attacks on Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf.
At this rate,
most all of our inventory has dissipated.
This is more than a problem, folks.
Someone needs to kick some sense into this man's head,
and I mean with a boot.
God bless, folks.
You asked for it.
You got it.
We didn't ask for any of this.
We asked for just the opposite.
Please let me know what you think about diverting more
of the money towards war and less of the money towards our people
and our domestic stability in the coming years.
Please share, please subscribe,
and always remember, anything's possible.
Bizarro world.
