James Kaufman, World News Report today.
And for those of you that don't know,
we have Artemis II returning to Earth today,
this evening, at around 6.30 p.m. Central, it looks like.
I've gotten some conflicting information,
but we're going to go live at about 4.30, 5 o'clock, just in case.
I'm going to let everybody know Artemis II is coming down.
They're saying that an amateur astronomer caught it here,
and gosh, that just doesn't seem like what I
thought it would look like going through space.
It's a very compact capsule with solar arrays, four of them,
and this looks like a ship, and the ship part is no longer with it.
I've got another one of these that looks similar,
except for it's actually headed down, if you will.
And again, it looks like a ship.
I know that y'all are going to tell me that's camera exposure,
but you would think that it would look, well, different.
I'm going to show you a picture of Artemis.
You would think it would look different,
although it looks like a longer spaceship-type situation.
All right, that photo was taken yesterday.
This one's being taken today.
NASA tells us this is the same ship.
See how elongated it is?
Plenty of exposures.
I'm going to show you all what the ship's supposed to look like next.
This just isn't what I expected to see via telescope and camera,
even with a longer exposure.
Again, tonight we're going live probably by about 5 p.m. Central.
Now, the reason I question how long it was or looks is because it
was supposed to lose its boosters and actual main ship
while still circling Earth for the first time.
It was supposed to just be a capsule,
and I'll show you what size capsule it is.
And that went all the way to the moon, circled the moon, capsule only
with four solar panels, and then it's headed back in for this evening.
Now, this is supposed to be it right now.
Even get rid of this engine towards the end.
It's supposed to be all we see right now are solar panels for energy
and a small module.
These, well, independent astrologers, they seem
to have caught something that appears much longer.
Although it might be exposure,
this is what it's supposed to look like here.
So, I guess you guys tell me, did the capsule seen here, without part
of it, it's already been jettisoned, create that very long view
so the amateur astronomers could catch those videos?
Either way, we'll know very shortly.
We have only a few hours before it splashes down in the Pacific Ocean.
Now, they have made it daytime still, I believe, there,
so that should be interesting, to say the very least.
I wish we had a camera looking up
for that C-130 dropping that module out the back.
God bless, folks who've been to the moon, or at least around it.
