Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, will not attend the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi, with the Iranian embassy citing “unforeseen circumstances” for his absence.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the embassy confirmed that Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, would be unable to participate in the meeting of parliamentary speakers from BRICS member countries. An Iranian parliamentary delegation will attend the forum in his place.

Despite the speaker’s absence, Tehran has reiterated its commitment to active participation in BRICS summits and meetings. The embassy said the Iranian delegation would continue dialogue and consultations with representatives of other member countries, with a focus on strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, particularly in parliamentary relations.
