Experts analyze the risks to diplomats and military staff, the volatile situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and the current state of U.S. military readiness and missile stockpiles as the region faces potential kinetic conflict.
We're learning about new threats from Iran
and the possibility that Americans may soon become
targets. I'm joined by Trenton Hooker
and retired Marine Intelligence Officer Howard Kemper. Thanks for
being here with us, Hal. What do you know about that report, Hal?
Well, the report has actually
come from the Director of National Intelligence
and then Secretary Rubio. Basically, U.S. personnel
across the Middle East are being targeted.
Initially, it looked like just Saudi Arabia
looked to be tied to the Houthis and what they're doing with drones
and missiles. Now, it looks like
there was a much bigger thing
and the fact that the director of national intelligence has weighed
in on this indicates that might be you know not just
u.s personnel military personnel and it could
be diplomats it could be other u.s personnel there in the middle east
so in a you know basically
prudence uh they're saying look get out
of there just just you know lay low use all the procedures
all things we've talked to you about
and if you don't have to be there get your families out and
no indication that this might happen
on american soil just somewhere in the middle east not
yet uh we haven't seen anything out there uh
is that a possibility you can't rule it out you know
we just had an indictment that was uh
in new york where basically there were you know the the
russians were trying to target
u.s personnel here we've seen iranians try to target u.s personnel
here so we can't rule it out i mean
the iranians they're they're being pushed to the limits right
now it isn't it is within their their scope
of capabilities got it how were we at with the
Strait of Hormuz. We just saw the president
on the campaign trail all week long. We're in the
final push towards the midterms.
He says the Strait of Hormuz is under complete U.S. control,
especially to try to get those gas prices down.
Are we in control of anything in the Hormuz
Strait? Well, Trenton, good news, bad news.
The good news is that oil coming out of the Strait
is almost, it could be surpassing what we saw before the war started.
The bad news is you're
seeing the Iranians starting to target more ships we
are seeing tankers hit so that's are we in
control more so than Iran by a long stretch
but with that said are the our ships still in peril
yes some clearly are and and it's it's
that that that fight isn't quite over yet yeah well we just
saw the Roosevelt come back in to dock
and rearm the rest of our navy our fleet as well as our
other weapons systems how are we doing on right now
u.s stockpile well it's all relative of course
with the patriot missiles
and the THAAD missiles we are vastly lower than where we should be
it's going to take a long time as in years
to build up our stockpiles with those areas
but in terms of relative combat power within
that area uh within uh soon within a couple weeks we
could have three carrier task forces
and possibly two marine expeditionary units all ready to go
now is that timing going to be around the midterm it could
be and could we go back to kinetics I
can't rule that out but we will have tremendous
combat capability all centered at that particular
time frame how about 30 seconds if do you feel like
the president feels like he's been pushed
into a corner and if we do attack more he's going
to have to really go all out I think I think he
feels a lot of pressure all right if he's pushing
to a corner I don't know but I think they've been
making plans that's how we do things we make plans I think
the plans are be ready in case we have to
do something at that particular time frame Hal we appreciate your time
and your expertise always
in studio in studio what a pleasure
for us yes thanks Brian thanks Trenton thank you guys
