AI GeneratedFather Edward Looney, a Catholic priest from Sacred Heart Parish, shares his experience of securing last-minute tickets to a Brewers game. He discusses the serendipity of obtaining face-value tickets just minutes before the first pitch and the camaraderie he experienced with fellow fans in the stadium.
Now, one of the people that was there
is a Catholic priest by the name of Father Edward Looney,
who joins us now on Fox 6 Now.
Father, appreciate you taking some time to join us on Fox 6 Now.
Welcome.
Yeah, thanks for having me.
And as you told us via email, you actually had Mass tonight.
So I guess let's just get this out of the way.
Did anything in the homily include any Brewers references?
I did make a brief reference to the Brewers.
The Gospel talks about loving God.
And so I said, it's evident tonight that you're setting
this out right first by coming to Mass before the Badger game,
before the Brewer game tonight.
So, yes, they got a little shout out.
And I told the people at the end of Mass, a lot of people
were asking me, are you going to Milwaukee after the Mass?
I'm like, I can't do that.
I have morning Mass, but I am going to Tampa.
So I'll be there.
All right.
And I know you're in Shawna, but at what church?
Yeah, Sacred Heart Parish in Shawna, Wisconsin.
Absolutely.
Okay.
Okay, so channeling the Brewers inside Sacred Heart Parish.
But you posted a reel, and I love
that you're so active on social media.
It's fun to connect with so many different people.
Obviously, that's why we love it.
And came across your reel today about how you
were able to score tickets to Game 1
minutes before first pitch
and minutes before Fox Sports kind of unveiled its pregame festivities.
So if people didn't see it,
explain it as best you can how you were able to get in.
Yeah, so I just showed up at Miller Park.
I parked a mile and a half away.
I started the walk there.
I met up with some people I knew that were tailgating,
and I thought to myself, I'm just
going to watch, you know, on SeatGeek,
on whatever app, and see if tickets go down.
That's how I got into the second game of the championship series.
So I'm like, maybe that'll work this time.
The tickets weren't dropping, and I was really feeling defeated.
And all of a sudden, someone said, well, go over to the tickets.
You know, they have some tickets left, and I get in line.
it's 6:48 and they all they say there's
no tickets left they're all sold out you know you can leave
and so I just stood in the back kind of waited
and all of a sudden there was this noise they
have tickets they have tickets
and so a lot of us kind of swoon over there and we snatch up these
tickets because Tampa Bay had released their visitor tickets at 655
so I went from 648
feeling like i gotta go to a sports bar in the area
to 707 being in my seat so it was quite the
swing and as i understand it it's not like you
were paying astronomical prices that we've been
seeing in the secondary market like these were reasonable
that they were face value and if that
isn't an indication that again there's
a holy spirit involved here i don't know what is
yeah yeah it was truly incredible you know just to be there
and to have it all fall into place
Like, I had done a comedy bit online just saying, like,
if you want to invite a priest to pray with you at the game,
to forgive your sins, like, my DMs are open.
No one took me up.
I thought maybe, you know, a corporate person
might have an extra ticket or something.
So I just thought I'd make the bold ask and do a little comedy bit.
And people thought that was funny.
And people were watching it all, you know,
asking all week long, are you going?
Are you going?
Did you get your ticket?
And so they were all super surprised when finally, like, here I am.
I'm at the game.
So tell us what it was like, what it was like inside to be in.
I have to imagine there's an immense feeling of gratitude.
Again, knowing that so close to first pitch, you're like,
I don't know if I'm going to make it in.
I'm going to have to find something else.
And then you do get inside.
I have to imagine, again, a sense of gratitude.
But then after that, the baseball just kind of takes over.
Yeah, you know, the other two games, I sat in like the 200 level
and the 100 level by third base.
and and this one was nosebleed section 400s like over
by the uke statue and uh bird's eye view over
home plate and i gotta tell you like i think they're
the best seats that i've had watching
the game you know from the different perspectives uh
and uh met the people on my left on my right
we all basically bought our tickets last minute
so it was pretty incredible just to share in the
camaraderie i went by myself i bought one ticket
and so like you're high-fiving complete strangers
you're just enjoying the game with each other
so it really brings you together uh with all the
people around you i love that and and there
are rays fans again these were the rays kind of
allotted section of tickets
so everything was good there no issues yeah you know there weren't
as many Rays fans as you would expect
so maybe four rows down there was a lot of Rays fans
i think there was a former player actually
in the section from what i gathered from conversations i
was overhearing uh but for the most part the Brewers
and their fans overtook that section
when they were released at the final hour
or the final minutes all right well i would be remiss if
we had you here on Fox 6 now
and i didn't ask a catholic priest for a a prayer for Brewers good
fortune and good luck here
so i see again we had mass earlier tonight you still have your collar
on hat is off i'll just
do this take it away father well almighty god you're the giver of all
gifts we thank you for the skills that you've given
to all of these players we ask that the
power of god might be behind the Brewers bats may we rejoice
at every score help them to compete
well and score more runs than the Rays
and bring us to ultimate victory in this World Series
through christ our lord amen amen
and as my news managers like to point out and we pray for a sweep
amen amen amen all right he's father Edward Ludy thank you
so much for joining us here on Fox 6
now i really appreciate your time yeah my pleasure thanks
so much go brewers go brewers indeed so
