James Kaufman will news report today.
Ladies and gentlemen,
the USGS is reporting that we've been struck by a 6.6 magnitude
earthquake from the southern eastern Pacific rise.
This is a plate tectonic boundary,
although we don't have a lot of information from this
part of the world,
obviously due to the lack of any land mass in these areas.
what we were able to come up with is a 6.6
and that was a downgrade we'll get some more
information in a second the only other information we have here
is well nobody felt it because no one
lives anywhere near it but they gave it a default depth
of 10 kilometers that just means that they
couldn't actually figure out how deep it was we had
a nice aftershock of a 5.0 right there on top
of it as well. So we have a lot going on down there.
Taking a look around the whole globe,
everything you see here are larger than 5.0 earthquakes.
So we're fairly busy all day
with large quakes.
I guess this is the charge of the plates that we saw occur from the two
days of geomagnetic storm that we just have gotten out of.
Now taking a look at the large
quick here a 6.6 see what we can find out we have
the usgs is the main source here and they're
coming in at a 6.6 of default depth we have germany
also coming in at 6.6 default depth
we have the french coming in at a 5.4 that country is always wrong
and always backwards
they always come in several magnitudes below any
other country in the world period although i have
a lot of heritage out of france they seem
to be incompetent let's get some more information about
this quake and find out how strong it really
was moving over to volcano discovery.com we find out
It was a very strong earthquake, a magnitude 6.6.
It was a southeastern Pacific rise.
It was today, the 20th.
All right, folks, let's get some real information.
All right, here we go.
A 6.6 main source USGS.
What we're really looking for here is 7.5 atomic bombs worth of energy,
I thought it would have been more.
were released with this earthquake.
You would think that there would be a tsunami warning,
so I did go ahead and look at the tsunami map,
which we will review in just one moment.
Obviously, there's no shake map or DYFI
because there's no population anywhere near the area.
So nobody but some of our sensors felt it,
that one report.
Now, at the time of this last update,
there was not an aftershock we of course saw
that there was a 5.0 aftershock the last few minutes
let's go over the data
from different reporting agencies we'll start out with the USGS at 6
6 Germany at 6.6 the French a 5.43 plus
or minus 2.4 ridiculous raspberry shake
a 6.1 default depth
the europeans came in at 6.6 the australians
who were right on top of it came in at 6.7
this was downgraded from a 6.7 by the USGS as well
and finally the incorporated research
institute for seismology came in at a 6.6 as well as well
and you can see here the asterisks
A depth given as 10 kilometers often means that the depth
of the quake could not be determined with sufficient accuracy.
Now, we see a lot of earthquakes in this exact area,
but this is the strongest one we've seen in 25 years,
or more than 25 years.
So, this was a very strong quake.
The one we saw before that was a 6-7.
If this was not downgraded, we'd have to go back a lot further.
Let's see how far.
I don't even think that it goes back any further.
This is 1935.
So that is almost equivalent
to the strongest quake we have ever seen in that area.
And again, without the downgrade, it would have
been the same magnitude as the strongest quake ever seen in that area.
Now, one would think that a tsunami would have been created
if 7.5 atomic bombs worth of energy were released under
the water here, but we don't see any buoys in event mode.
Now, obviously, we really don't have any buoys down here,
and it could have created a small tsunami that pittered out, but usually
you would see it on one of these buoys throughout the Pacific here.
So, it doesn't look like any tsunami was created,
even though it was a very large earthquake.
So, to summarize, what do we have?
We've got a mess on our hands.
Obviously, the west coast of the U.S. is really rumbling.
This all has to do with the geomagnetic
storm that we're in for two days.
The Aleutian Islands are really rumbling.
Oh boy, Anchorage is really rumbling.
We have a lot of 5-plus earthquakes on the table,
and we have this big 6.6 down here
on the southeastern Pacific rise, depth unknown.
This is a very large uptick in earthquakes,
one of the larger upticks we've seen in quite a while.
Again, we do have also, I think, a 5.9 right here.
yes a 5.9 it was a 6.0 but was downgraded
as well earthquakes were popping over on the west coast as
quick as possible with that said the story
of the day the 6.6 no tsunami created definitely
definitely thought that would be please share please subscribe
and always remember
anything's possible in bizarro world
