By endorsing Abdul El-Sayed and Jocelyn Benson, the speaker emphasizes the need for leaders who prioritize working families over the wealthy and powerful, calling for a strong turnout at the polls to ensure a victory for the people.
So listen, you all, this election, we face a choice between two paths.
One takes us backwards, weakening workers' rights,
putting health care further out of reach,
and letting government interfere in our most precious
and personal decisions.
The other moves us forward with greater opportunity,
with hope, with unity and affordable health care,
which we all care about,
and a government that works for all of us, all of us.
Across Michigan, this choice
is a personal choice.
It's whether you can afford groceries and fill your prescription,
whether you can afford to pay your bills with your paycheck,
whether your children can build a future right here at home.
But what I know is that all around Detroit
and across the state of Michigan,
people are working hard.
They're working hard.
and they deserve a government that works just as hard for them.
You want leaders
who will deliver for the people,
not just the wealthy, the powerful, and the connected.
Leaders who will defend our constitutional freedoms
and stand up for our democracy.
Then look no further than Abdul
El-Sayed and Jocelyn Benson.
Abdul, for many years
I've worked alongside him
and I've seen firsthand his commitment to putting people first.
And I am proud to call Jocelyn Benson, my friend and a colleague,
as our Secretary of State.
She defended our democracy
and protected the integrity of our elections.
I believe in them,
and I know that they will fight for you.
Those are the leaders that we need fighting in the halls of Washington
and in Lansing and Michigan in just 10 days.
We will send them there.
We will. So here in Detroit,
we know that change takes courage
and people willing to stand up and fight for it.
More than 60 years ago, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,
alongside my grandfather, led thousands to the walk
to freedom right here in the city of Detroit, right here in Detroit.
They marched down Woodward Avenue demanding
that America live up to its promise.
And as a granddaughter of the Civil Rights Movement, I know
that our right to be heard came through struggle and through sacrifice.
Generations stood up so that we could have a say.
And now it is our time to make our voices heard.
It is our time. Because we know that we,
the people, have the power.
And when we, the people, organize,
when we show up and we vote, we turn that power into progress.
So as I close Michigan,
we have 10 days to turn that promise into action.
10 days to knock doors, 10 days to get to the polls, and 10 days
to deliver a victory for working families in the state of Michigan.
Are we ready? November 3rd, we will elect Abdul
El-Sayed, and we will elect Jocelyn Benson
as the next governor of the state of Michigan.
Together, standing united, we will use our voices,
and we will bring a victory home in November.
God bless you all, and let's get out to vote, Michigan!
I now have the absolute privilege of bringing up to the podium
the president of the Detroit Federation of Teachers,
LaKeia Wilson.
