Join me for a tour inside Sunnycroft, a beautifully preserved Victorian house in Wellington, Shropshire, cared for by the National Trust. Hidden behind an avenue of trees, this remarkable family home is filled with original furnishings, personal belongings and over 12,000 objects collected across generations.

In this week's video, we're exploring the rooms and uncovering the stories of the people who lived and worked here.

We'll meet Mary Jane Slaney, the remarkable Victorian widow who transformed Sunnycroft into the house we see today, and Joan Lander, a talented embroiderer who contributed to Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation gown in 1953.

From the elegant drawing room and billiards room to the servants' bedrooms, kitchen and scullery, Sunnycroft offers a fascinating glimpse into Victorian and Edwardian domestic life.

What makes this house so special is that it remained a family home until 1997. So much of its history has survived, not just in the grand rooms, but in the everyday possessions left behind.

I hadn't expected Sunnycroft to become one of my favourite historic houses, but the stories of its residents and the wonderful volunteers who care for it made this a particularly memorable visit.
