I built a new online store, so before I send anyone to it, I went through it like a stranger would. I found three things that would make me leave without buying, and here's how I'm fixing each one.
Chapters: 0:00 Shopping my own store like a stranger 0:30 Can I actually buy something? 1:50 Would I trust this store with my card? 2:38 The email box that goes nowhere 3:06 Following up with Omnisend 4:33 My three fixes
So my store is live, it's got products,
and there's a sale banner running across the top.
There are five buttons on this homepage.
There's shop now, and then a bunch of buy now buttons.
All five go to this speaker, and it is sold out.
That's a bummer.
So I'm running through this new store that I put together,
and I'm trying to just view it like a stranger would,
like a random person visiting this website,
and find everything that would make me leave
without making a purchase.
So when I look over the website,
there's a few things that I found that I wanna fix
before I start sending the masses to this website.
First thing, can I actually buy something?
And one thing I noticed when I got down here,
when you buy a bundle, buy two, you save $20.
So that's actually good.
But by three, you save $0.
By four, you save $0.
By five, you save $0.
So that's a problem.
When I go to the catalog page,
it shows that same product that is sold out right now.
So that's not good.
I scroll down on the catalog
and the catalog looks kind of good,
but there is duplicate products in here these things are in here twice
so that's something that
I need to fix it says there's 21 products
but I actually only put 11 in the store so I got to
figure out some of them are in there twice
so also I found a power strip that with a European plug
but the prices on the store are in dollars
so if I'm selling this to people in the U.S. then this
is not going to be super helpful for them another thing I noticed
on this starry moon lamp it says
get it between Sunday, November 1st and Wednesday, November 11th.
So that is too big of a range.
That's going to make people upset.
I just know from experience, if you ask someone,
hey, when am I going to get my package?
And you say within this 10 day range,
that's not going to make people happy.
So fix one, we're going to point the homepage at something
you can actually ship. We're going to list every product once,
and we're going to hide anything
that's sold out. Those are kind of my big three fixes today.
Second problem, would I trust this
store with my card. If I go to checkout
and I look at a store like this, am I going to be like,
oh yeah, that's probably safe. Give me my credit card there.
I mean, you can start with the name
of the store. It's called BWS user store one zero
two five two six nine. That doesn't instill a lot
of trust in the store itself. And we have the same name down here.
BYS user store. Is that a good
name for a store? It's just a placeholder that I never changed.
Okay. So I got to fix that. And if
tried to go to the refund policy it doesn't actually exist
so that doesn't instill a lot
of confidence either so fix to give the store
a real name add a refund policy a shipping policy
and these are little things if you're going
to do a drop shipping store e-commerce in general
make sure you're looking at these little details
so last problem here that i'm going to fix before
we move on to the next step of this store
and making it successful and this is the easiest
one to miss first off i want to make
the site look just a little bit better in general like
the seasonal sale like we don't need to say it this many times
so i'll probably have ai get to
work on some of that but this don't miss
our hot deals if i put in my email address here they
subscribe but then what do i do with that email getting
their email is one thing but am i actually
using that email and following up
so one more thing i'm going to set up day one there's a free
plan for OmniSend most people
who land on your store are not going to buy the first time they
they get there, they're going to look around and leave,
maybe put something in their cart first.
That's pretty normal. But OmniSend is an email
and text tool for online stores. It connects right
into Shopify, which is what this store runs on.
So the follow-up sequences come pre-built in.
There's one for abandoned carts, one to welcome new people,
and one for customers who bought once,
but then I haven't heard back from them.
So here's the abandoned cart one. If someone gives
you their email, adds a product and leaves.
This sends them a reminder. The email's already
drafted. They've done the testing and this is a good email.
So, and this only works if they
actually gave you their email first
and just a plain box on the homepage like this one doesn't
really give anyone a reason to put their email in here.
So OmniSend has signup pop-ups for that,
including new ones. They have like a scratch card and a mystery gift.
So first-time visitors are
more likely to see it and they love you know scratching
and getting a discount and that
incentivizes them to give you their email
so we want to set this up before we really get rolling
with this store so that once people start showing up we're
not losing them as they come in and we
want to you know fill the hole
in the bucket before we start filling the bucket and i'm going
to send this email and text in the same place
that'll be very nice here and we can use the
free plan for now it covers 250 contacts
and 500 emails a month so we don't have to pay anything
to start until we start growing.
Three quick things that I'm going to fix before we go to
step two in this journey and start getting traffic on this store.
Let me know in the comments what
else you would like to see change with the store before we go live.
I'll show you what I come up
with here, but stay tuned for the next part of this series.
God bless you all and have a great
rest of your day.
