U.S. Central Command said Tuesday evening that it began self-defense strikes, quote-unquote, on Iran in response to the downing of a U.S. Apache Army helicopter on Monday. President Trump said Iranians had shot down the helicopter that crashed near the Straits of Hormuz. The two pilots were uninjured. After the retaliatory strikes were announced, President Trump told ABC News that, quote, I believe the response should have been very, very strong, maybe stronger, more powerful. Mr. Trump said earlier that efforts to reach a deal with Iran were in their final throes. What a moron. Doesn't matter what they sign, moron. They just took one of our choppers down. What a sell-out bitch. With a deal possible in two to three days. Last week he called out Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as well. It is unclear whether negotiations stand following these helicopter incidents. Israel has continued military operations against Iran, backed Hezbollah in Lebanon, and health authorities said at least eight people were killed Tuesday. In news strikes on the southern city of Tahrir, Iran warned Monday that it would retaliate for any new Israeli attacks on Lebanon or South Lebanon on Hezbollah.
