James Kaufman, World News Report Today.
The Corsair drone boat that plucked
the downed Apache crew out of the Gulf of Oman.
Wow.
The U.S. Navy's top drone task force in the Middle East only
started operating the Corsair uncrewed surface vessel in March.
Wow.
What a sophisticated tool this is.
U.S. Central Command CENTCOM has confirmed that a Sarsonic Corsair
was the uncrewed surface vehicle, the USV, that rescued
the crew of a U.S. Army AH-64 Apache out of the Gulf of Oman.
As most of you already all know,
we in fact did have a U.S. Army AH-64 Apache helicopter taken down
by Iranian forces over the Gulf of Oman.
President Trump decided to shoot back after that helicopter attack,
and, well, there was a response.
This is the first known instance of a drone boat being used
to recover personnel as part of a search and rescue mission
and has major implications for these operations going forward.
The recovery team was forced to use this uncrewed surface vessel,
or USV, because of the heavy fire in that particular area.
The last thing they needed to do was fly in the same area and make
themselves vulnerable to be taken down just like the Apache was.
So, they went to this new drone boat
that just started operations in March.
The U.S. Navy Corsair unmanned surface vessel
is operated by the U.S. 5th Fleet's Task Force 59.
U.S. Navy Captain Tim Hawkins, a CENTCOM spokesman, told TWZ the task
force began fielding these drones in the theater in late March.
The uncrewed surface drone simply picked
the crew members up that were floating in the water
and brought them out of the enemy's area of control, where they
were hoisted aboard a chopper and rushed to a hospital for evaluation.
The Navy confirmed last December it had signed another
transaction authority, an OTA deal with Saronic,
valued at $392 million for the production of more Corsair USVs.
If I knew how many were in the order, we could figure out what
these things cost, but that information is unavailable.
The Corsair, which the manufacturer also calls
an Autonomous Surface Vehicle, ASV, is a 24-foot-long drone boat
with speedboat-like design, and it was first unveiled in 2024.
The manufacturer says it has a maximum range
of about 1,000 nautical miles,
a top speed of about 35 knots, which is about 40 miles an hour,
and 1,000-pound payload capacity.
While it looks a little bit like the simple attack drones
the Ukrainians have been taking out large Russian Navy ships with,
this is an extremely sophisticated machine.
So, ladies and gentlemen, there were no lives.
well put in jeopardy and it rushed in scooped them up
and to come out far enough to be hoisted
to a chopper out of the range of the Iranian uh
card god bless pretty cool stuff i wonder how many
we have please share subscribe
and always remember anything's possible bizarro world
