I have a look outside at Frederick, Maryland tonight.
It has been nice.
It's been dry.
Let's see if it's continuing this weekend.
Mike Thomas is here with a check of the forecast for the weekend.
Hey, Mike.
Yeah, here we go with a repeating pattern
as we head through your Saturday and Sunday,
which is a good thing if you like the weekend.
Now, number one thing I'm getting asked is,
is this going to make the drought worse?
Not really.
Remember, we're getting towards winter.
Winter is typically a drier season here in Washington.
It is the driest season, as a matter of fact.
It doesn't really matter how much snow we get.
The average for the winter, I think,
right around eight inches for the entire season,
whereas summertime we average around a foot of rain typically.
So that's the difference here.
We have done plenty of progress in knocking out
the drought over the course of the last few months.
Some places, yes, could still use a little bit more rain.
We're going to get back to a weather pattern at some point.
We are in the midst already of a pretty strong
El Nino down there in the Pacific
that's going to have major implications for the upcoming winter.
One thing that's almost a for sure with any El Nino season,
regardless of how strong it is, they tend to be wet.
So I do think we're going to get back to a weather pattern
at some point, but enjoy this weather while we have it.
Frederick at 42.
Hagerstown, 50 degrees, 53 D.C.,
51 for Quantico, 43 Manassas, 44 Culpeper.
No 30s on the map just yet, but I bet you
when we wake up tomorrow morning, a lot of those zones out to the north
and west will likely be in the mid to upper 30s.
You see Frederick about 34, Dulles 38, Gaithersburg 36.
Way out to the west there, Martinsburg, Winchester.
Good evening to you tonight.
You guys are going to get up to freezing during the overnight hours.
40 for Fredericksburg, 45 for our friends in Leonardtown.
Cold weather alerts.
We got freeze warnings, but not near D.C.
Got to get to the eastern part of Pennsylvania,
up through parts of New Jersey there.
However, a little closer to home, some of our northern counties,
including for our viewers up there in Frederick,
Maryland, as well as Carroll County.
They're under frost advisories tonight.
Northern Baltimore County is as well.
Now, D.C., Baltimore, Dulles are three big airports here.
None of them have hit the freezing mark yet.
We have not even had a frost advisory here in D.C. just yet.
So when do we typically do it?
D.C., believe it or not, usually doesn't see their first freezing.
And look, we do measure next to the river,
so that tends to hold up temperatures.
First day of freezing is average November 17th.
We did it pretty early last year.
We did it on Veterans Day, November 11th.
For Dulles, they tend to get a little earlier.
October 19th is the average date.
We did it October 25th last year, so a little later than average.
We still have not done it.
Lowest temperature I saw at Dulles, they hit 36 twice.
Baltimore has hit 35 degrees,
but we have not had any of our major airports hit freezing just yet.
Satellite and radar, calm and quiet across the D.C. area,
calm and quiet across much of the northeast region
as a zone of high pressure takes control coming out of northern Canada.
You see those H's up there.
Those will leave us dry right through the weekend.
And on the cooler side compared to average,
but honestly, still really, really nice,
62 degrees for your day on Saturday.
Sunday, we'll get back into the middle 60s,
but plenty of sunshine both days.
Gus?
All right, Mike, thank you.
Coming up, the weather.
