All right. Well, are you a fan of the show Bob's Burgers?
If so, we've got a treat for you.
The cartoonist behind the character designs is in Seattle.
Yeah, this week. And next artist Jay Howell is creating one
of a kind art and tattoos at Anchor Tattoo.
And that's in the Ballard area.
And Fox 13's AJ Janivel sat down with him and actually had a draw off.
So what I'd love to do with Jay, I'm going to draw him
and I'm going to have him draw me. And we're going to
talk and hang out. Jay, tell me first off how you got into
drawing. I started really, really young
and I get asked this question all the time. It's just like
I don't remember when it started.
I just know it's always been a constant in my life. So
I've just recently got a little bit better at it.
My stuff is simple. I'm not so esoteric, man. I
like like Charles Schulz and I like Jim Davis,
like Garfield and Snoopy, you know, and Matt
Groening from The Simpsons really is a huge,
huge influence in my life. Really kind of got into the
scene doing zines and punk and skateboarding.
Yeah, absolutely.
Just going to punk shows as a kid, hanging out,
and seeing that a lot of skaters and
a lot of other punks were making zines in their own comics,
self-published DIY stuff.
And I was like, my gosh, you can do this, that's so cool.
So I just started also doing that, and I mean,
they got me every job I've ever had.
So I'm just really grateful for that.
Lauren Bouchard, the creator of Bobs, was just out and about,
always checking out shows.
One time he came to an art show of mine.
He's like, hey, man, I have an idea for a new TV show.
I want to hear, like, maybe you want to work on it with me.
And I was like, yeah, dude, that sounds amazing.
What's it all about?
And he's like, all right, it's about a family
of cannibals that lives next to a mortuary.
They steal the dead bodies and they make burgers out of them.
We're going to call it Bob's Burgers.
Oh, man, that is not how Bob's Burgers turned out, bro.
No, it's not.
So you don't have a place that you, like, call home.
Yeah, absolutely.
I just travel full time now doing different engagements.
I mean, I just spoke at the elementary school,
Alki, here the other day.
I'll be tattooing next couple of weeks.
Not at Alki.
No, no.
Elementary.
Yes.
Yeah.
I'm not tattooing there.
All the kids have tattoos now.
It's great.
Yeah.
Where I spoke to every single class
from kindergartners to fifth graders.
Yeah.
We did drawing exercises.
We did draw longs.
You think you'll be back?
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
I'll be back here next year for sure.
Okay.
So if you missed out on Jay.
2027.
This year he'll be back.
Yep.
original piece, and yeah, should we?
Yeah, let's show them.
Reporting here in Seattle,
AJ Janneville, Fox 13 News.
Look at that.
That is so good, and AJ,
I bet he had the time of his life.
AJ, our resident cartoonist.
Yeah.
With a legend.
And if people were wondering,
because I honestly had the question,
what is going on with the blur?
Yeah, what is the blur?
It was, well, because there's
something you can't air up.
There's some nudity, okay,
you guys, it's a family show here.
Well, if you want to know more
about this, Jay, he is all booked
for tattoos this week and next.
But you can keep up with him to see
when he'll be back in town via his social media.
