Natural Tinders For Firesteel

Alright, so there's these dead ferns everywhere, right there, and as you can see I've got a handful of them, the leaves, the dead leaves, so all I'm doing is just pulling the dead leaves off, I'm going to try and use that for a natural tinder as well, see what happens, I don't know. all right so i've got my five tinders laid out or sorry i've got six there i'm not sure if all six are gonna work uh we'll see though so starting there i've got oak leaves and those are the ferns that i collected the dead uh fern leaves that's basswood inner fiber that is Phragmites or no that is the queen anne's lace heads the dried flowers Phragmites and at the very end there there's the the wood shavings and the winds picking up so I'm imagining it might blow my stuff everywhere which would be awesome all right so first up we're gonna be the wood shavings they gave me a little bit of trouble but probably because I didn't make them very good next up will be the fragmites this stuff is taking over where our cat tails used to grow half of it's dead right now there's only a little bits of seed fluff on the outsides that's first that part's catching up and going real quick the other stuff really isn't catching there go that's not working the greatest it's more of a flash tinder that stuff's really not the greatest now these are the queen anne's lace heads hook them up a bit go on there you go a little better than just a flash they'll go for a minute or a few seconds at least uh basswood basswood inner bark fibers next are the ferns i don't know about these this is one of the iffy ones to me let me go in there here's our tinder bundle so that was five uh the fragmites really wasn't that good I'm going to try these oak leaves, they are kind of damp, I'm going to crush them up real good first. There we go, so none of these were really, they all took some coaxing except for the basswood fibers, with the exception maybe of if they go good enough. Later on in the year when they turn more seedy they're a lot better, like I said everything is a little damp and they're not quite ready.
