Lawmakers are calling for an investigation
into the transgender pamphlets that thousands
of Texans received in the mail this week.
Fox 4 learned that the pamphlets came from an
organization that registered as an LLC just last month in Wyoming
and the identity of the people
who started that LLC remains private.
One transgender group referenced in the pamphlet
says that they had nothing to do with them.
Fox 4's Sean Rabb joining us now with more details.
Sean. Yeah and for everything that you're talking about now
a West Texas district attorney
whose jurisdiction includes three very rural counties,
says she has opened a fraud investigation,
a forgery investigation into these pamphlets.
The mailers came out and they were purported
to be information for transgender students.
They were mailed to, quote, the student in the house,
even if there were no children in the household.
The mailers claimed to come from a group called
the Texas Transgender Student Union,
But that group was licensed
as a private LLC just last month in Wyoming.
It was established through what's called a registered agent,
which allows the actual people behind the LLC to remain private.
The return address on the mailer is a P.O. box in the Houston area.
The mailer also contains links to a real Texas group called
the Transgender Education Network of Texas.
And that group says they have nothing to do with the mailer
that went out to homes as early voting began in the midterm elections.
Dallas State Representative Vincent Jones
is vice chair of the House LGBTQ Caucus.
We need to be pursuing legal opportunities to make sure
that people are not conducting fraud and sending things during
the elections in the name of other organizations
or other entities in order to advance political agendas.
So I would absolutely work with the LGBTQ caucus and anyone
who would want to make sure that we continue to have fair
and clean elections that are based on facts and based on getting
the best services that we need available to Texas families right now.
West Texas District Attorney Sarah Stogner, who is a Republican,
has opened the potential fraud investigation, an investigation
that could possibly include even more severe criminal charges.
Again, all of this right before the election.
And again, the group named in this pamphlet,
the Transgender Network of Texas,
says it has absolutely nothing to do with it.
In fact, it says the mailing out of this pamphlet has brought threats
of violence to their organization.
All right, Sean, thank you.
