James Kaufman, World News Report today.
We've had another 6.5 magnitude earthquake, again in the Philippines.
Came in as a 6 on the DYFI, a 7 on the shake map.
Must have been a highly populated area.
They think the depth's around 42 kilometers.
This is the USGS's information.
Looks like there were quite a few aftershocks.
this was on a plate tectonic boundary
and also on a volcanic ranger ridge let's get some detailed
info all right taking a look at those quakes we'll see what
that area looks like in general
wow it is very active lots of magma movement under there now look
at just these two largest quakes
the 6.5 and the 5.0 these were on this plate
tectonic boundary basically and we do have
active volcanoes to the north
and to the south of this probably sitting on top of a large
magma chamber here that's why you see all
of this action wow let's get some more information if we
so a very strong magnitude 6.5 earthquake
in the philippines all right this is usgs information
we can see the nearest volcano is only 17 miles away
which is very close 5.3 atomic bombs worth
of energy released from this one 6.5 magnitude quake alone
not to mention all the afterquakes
and the 5.0 that also occurred there.
42 kilometers seems to be the consensus,
although we'll compare different agencies in just a moment.
And let's continue to move on.
All right, taking a close look, the epicenter was off the coast,
although we had plenty of people feel it all around the Philippines
from the west, north, and from the south.
This is that 6.5 magnitude earthquake
on the 26th of today.
All right, comparing two earthquake agencies' data,
this is an area that receives a lot of earthquake activity.
Start out with the USGS.
We already know that's a 6.5, 42 kilometers.
French came in at a 5.99, plus or minus 0.14.
They gave it a default depth of 10 kilometers.
Next, we have Germany.
coming in at 6.5, 32 kilometers of depth.
The Indonesian government came in at a 6.6,
and they're on top of it with a lot of geophones at 31 kilometers.
What else do we have?
Who else do we have chiming in?
The Australians came in at 6.5, 43 kilometers.
The Europeans at 6.5, 54 kilometers.
The Italians at 6.3, plus or minus 0.2.
We could have been at 6.5, right?
At 55 kilometers.
And the Philippines themselves came in at 6.5, 45 kilometers.
As always, I want the extra mile for you guys.
It didn't have a tsunami warning associated with it,
but I did go to the National Data Buoy Center,
check to see if any of the buoys were in event mode,
and that's a negative, Ghost Rider.
So the day is early,
but so far we have a 6.5 magnitude earthquake here in the Philippines.
I wanted to do a couple of honorable mentions.
This is going to be a New Madrid quake right here.
You can see the Madrid runs up through here,
right on it, as you can see.
And it looks like we have a little swarm up here
in Yellowstone, believe it or not.
It looks like only, let's get that off the screen, like only three.
And they're showing a lot more than three there.
Let's get that one on.
They're showing 10.
So let's zoom in and see what we have.
We have 10 here.
Well, they must be right on top of each other.
We'll do latest and greatest.
Let's see.
If anything, they're substantial.
A 1.7, a 1.0.
They're deep enough not to worry about 0.8s, 0.5s, 0.4s, 0.2s.
10 quakes in Yellowstone right here unbelievable
I wonder why you can't see them when you move in
usually you'll be able to make them out once you move
in obviously we can make out here they all
are right here right in the middle of the caldera right
in the lake wow pretty scary stuff really
there's the other one always to the what to the northeast
and this is right in the caldera
that's more than honorable mention so that said we
also have something popping off on
Mount Rainier, so it's like Mount Saint Helens down here
and a flank on Mount Saint Helens down here
uh that looks like about the gist of it
this is a volcano Mount Olympic this just occurred but
it's really flanking the Olympic that said we're sure
in an uptick for earthquake activity
with no solar winds and well no coronal mass ejections
to speak of period that said Galbo
but we have the 6.5 in Philippines we've got
the 10 quakes in Yellowstone with the one quake on
the New Madrid we have then again both through a near
and Saint Helens popped by smaller quakes
please share subscribe
and always remember anything's possible in Bizarro World make
sure to please give us a thumbs up guys it's really important thank you
