Let's turn our focus to politics.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris will do a three-day
swing through Georgia, beginning on Wednesday, October 28th.
And she says that she'll be
campaigning for incumbent Senator John Ossoff.
She'll also attend voter protection events
and speak at a gala for the Democratic Party
that's happening next Friday.
So before coming here to Atlanta next week,
she was in Mississippi yesterday for a Democratic
Senate candidate. Fox's Asher Redhage is there now.
Asher, good morning to you. Thanks for joining us.
So there's a lot of chatter, you know, heading into the midterms.
So what are you hearing from voters about the former VP?
What are folks saying?
Yeah, good morning.
A lot of the voters at last night's rally
were telling me that they want to see the
former vice president back in the White House in two years.
Take a listen.
I would love to see a change.
If it's her, anybody, anyone except what we got.
And we don't need another one like that.
Her being the first black lady, being vice president,
something I thought I would never see, but I'm glad God let me
be able to see it, and I'm glad to have her come to visit our state.
Former Vice President Harris held a rally
at a high school gymnasium here in Columbus yesterday.
And although Mississippi is typically a Republican stronghold,
Harris was here trying to convince voters
that Democratic Senate candidate Scott Colome is the man
to replace Mississippi Senator Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith.
But a recent Fox News power ranking shows
the Republicans are likely to take this race.
And even a former Clinton advisor doesn't understand why Harris chose
to come to such a deep red state.
Take a listen.
I don't believe Mississippi is in play.
I can't speak to what Kamala
is doing other than perhaps taking soundings for 2028 but I don't
think there's going to be a breakthrough
In Mississippi there are going to be a lot of states
where breakthroughs are possible; Mississippi isn't one of them
and this is Harris's second
stop on a tour taking her from Nevada to the East Coast
in the coming days Harris is scheduled to
visit Wisconsin, Georgia and New Hampshire. I'm here
to say we are on the verge because of the leaders
who are here. We are on the verge of making a statement,
not only about who we are as Americans,
who you are as Mississippians,
but also the kind of future that we want for our children,
for our families, for our parents and grandparents,
for the ancestors that we honor.
And President Trump is also coming
to Mississippi on Monday to rally Republican
votes for Senator Hyde-Smith. Elise?
Things are certainly heating up as we can see well ahead of
the midterm elections right now.
So, Asher, thank you so much for the latest there. We appreciate
it. And we want to turn our focus now to former President Barack Obama.
He's heading to Atlanta
to headline a campaign rally for Georgia Democrats.
He'll join Senator John Ossoff
and gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms next Wednesday ahead
of the midterm election.
President Trump staying busy, too.
He's making another visit to Georgia ahead
of the midterm elections as he continues to
campaign for Republicans across the country.
So tomorrow, the president will be in Macon for a rally.
No word on that location just yet, but registration is open.
So last Friday, President Trump made
a campaign stop here in Georgia in support of Republican
Congressman Mike Collins.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson was also there.
So digging deeper into the upcoming election,
it's not just the candidates that Georgians will need to decide on.
Georgians will also be seeing proposed
constitutional amendments on the ballot.
So let's take a look at a few of those,
explain what they mean, go through the wording there.
So the first is, shall the Constitution of Georgia for the purpose
of protecting family farmland be amended as to increase
the maximum acreage to qualify for assessment and taxation
as a bona fide conservation use property
from 2,000 acres to 4,000 acres.
So if you're listening to that, if you're reading that and wondering,
what on earth does this mean?
Well, it has to do with the tax break for farmers and timber growers.
So if this amendment passes,
it would increase from 2,000 acres to 4,000 acres.
So that's certainly one, just to make yourself aware,
be familiar and make a decision on how you feel about it.
But let's go now to the second amendment.
Here's what this one says.
shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended
so as to require that all probate court judges be
elected in nonpartisan elections?
If this passes, what this means is candidates would appear on the
ballot without political party affiliations.
Probate judges handle things like wills,
they handle estates, and they also handle marriage licenses as well.
So let's take a look at the
third amendment now. Shall the Constitution
of Georgia be amended as to authorize the General
assembly to dedicate certain existing revenues,
including revenues reallocated by law to a
non-lapsing fund to be used exclusively for the expansion,
the maintenance, the operation of
emergency 911 systems in this state.
So that is what you would see on the ballot. So to break this
down a little bit, if you're like me wondering
what exactly does this one mean? Well, this
amendment would allow the state legislature
to create a special fund to expand and upgrade 911
technology. So hopefully that helps a little bit
as you prepare to vote for the candidates,
but also these ballot questions that you'll see as well.
