While the Chicago Bears secured a significant victory and a 5-2 start, the conversation balances the impressive statistical achievements of both players against critical mistakes and the dynamics of team play.
This was a pretty good football game last night.
There was a bonehead throw in this ball game,
but I thought the two quarterbacks did a hell of a job in this game.
Drake Mayes was 24-31 for 321, two TDs and a touchdown,
and Williams was 22-33 for 308 and two TDs.
Man, the guy was absolutely great.
He's been really great, Caleb Williams, for the last two weeks here,
but no question about it, that was a big-time win for the Bears.
Are the Bears the best team in the NFC?
You know, my guys last week
were giving me grief about having the Bears in the top five.
Well, I'll tell you what, that was a hell of a performance last night.
Ben Johnson really had a chance to sit back
and watch both quarterbacks go after one another.
It was a pretty damn good display last night.
Yeah, yeah, it felt like he was a little
bit back and forth there for a while.
And, you know, just watching Drake Mayes play,
I mean, he's an outstanding player.
It's very hard to bottle him up.
you know you only rush four
and he finds a way if he doesn't see anything down the field to find an
open gap and you know skirt on through
and then i think what's really impressive is how he can find
these little outlets and these dumps
um where they're they're still running vertical for catch
and run opportunities i think they had a number of those tonight
so um it's really effective uh
you can tell he's he's kind of caught
his rhythm now this part of the season and
and probably continue to do that.
And Caleb, it was good to get him now two weeks in a row,
finding some open receivers.
And, you know, I think I always feel more comfortable as a play caller
when we get a full week of practice
so that I can see all these plays come to life in practice
and, you know, we can talk to him a little bit more.
So for a short week, which we really haven't had many of
since I've been here together, I thought he did a great job.
This guy's my favorite coach in the NFL right now.
Like, he's a softer version of a Mike Ditka.
You know, he's got great energy,
and this guy, he's real good at the podium.
I like how complimentary he is towards
the other players, too, in the league.
And I really do dig this guy.
And he mentioned Caleb Williams.
Caleb Williams getting back on the field
the last two weeks has been sensational.
And getting him out there and getting him there is important.
Caleb also talked about this 5-2 start.
We're in a good spot, obviously.
Long season.
And we got guys that go down,
we got guys that come back off injuries, all of that.
So, like I said, long season,
feel good going into this extended period before this next game,
be able to get ample amount of time to rest,
ample amount of time to focus on these next guys
and be able to get exactly where we need to be as a team.
Like Denzel Washington there, right?
I mean, kids up there looking dope in that suit, I dig it, man.
And now we have The Problem Child.
I like it when guys get a nickname.
I like it when they get dubbed this.
And Luther Bird, man, how do you like being called The Problem Child?
Everyone's calling you The Problem Child, lady.
What does that mean?
Look at this.
When I get the ball, it's going to be a problem.
Especially with too much space.
When I get the ball, it's going to be a problem.
It's not bad.
Do you have another one in mind?
No, man, I just, you know, let my teammates come over.
Well, let's hang in there a little bit there,
because the kid, that's probably his best
game since he's been a Chicago Bear.
The problem, Charlie, I do dig it, though.
Speaking of problems, though, on the other end,
Drake May, as I said, man, he was 24-31,
321 in the ballgame, had 26 yards rushing in the game.
You see that one number down there, though?
Jimmy Johnson used to always tell us,
you can make tremendous plays in a ballgame, but
don't make the bonehead play.
and there was a Drake Maye bonehead play last night.
It definitely was a huge point in the game.
You know, I just, gosh, just, it's those plays, you know,
I talk about all the time, you know,
those plays that can swing the game,
can impact the game, and that was definitely one of them right there.
You know, I wish I definitely had that one back in a lot of plays,
but I give credit to them.
They had a good plan on a short week, and they got after us,
and we got, you know, two chances
with the ball back to go down and score
and take the lead, and we got to go through our park,
and we just can't have penalties
and me not operating at the high level
to kind of move the chains and keep going.
And Coach got the missed dual.
We had a bad three and out.
Guys, I'm going to help this kid out at the mic.
You know what you give the media?
You give them ---- too.
You know what ---- too is?
It's a little dog.
You don't give them anything, man.
Just get up there and tell them I made
a bad play and I want to go home.
I mean, the kid was really great in the game,
but you got to get away from those bad plays in the game.
And Mike Grable knows.
I mean, he gave us a chance.
He competed, and I know he'd like to have that throwback to Eli,
but, you know, I thought he really competed.
And whether that was running around and scrambling
or finding, you know, good places to go with football,
gave us a chance.
You know, I know he'd like to have that one back,
and he'll learn from it like he always does.
And, you know, I'm glad he's ours.
All right, man.
No question about it here, man.
He made a bad play here, bud.
Now, here we go to the excuse machine.
You know the reader on the sidelines?
He knows everybody's focusing on A.J. Owens.
I'm a bit.
I understand how the game goes.
By the way, I call him A.J. Owens.
It's just kind of how the game is.
I know what type of player I am,
and I know that that's always the case.
Every time I line up, I get a lot of attention.
So, teams try to take me away.
You got feet for hands.
opportunities for other guys to make plays
and soften that up for me and then whenever I get my
shots you know I gotta make sure they come
on man you gotta start making some plays man it's one of the
reasons why they brought you up there
with that famous New England Patriots carpet in your room
