No. You see, my father's throwing a banquet at our residence to celebrate my success. I'll visit another day. All right. I'll see you out. My lady. How much longer will you need to recover? Chunhua. Do you like it here? Lingnan is terribly hot, and it rains all the time. The Yan family's house is pretty run-down too. And there are bugs everywhere. But... the scenery is beautiful. It's peaceful here too, with hardly anyone around. You seem much happier here than you ever did in the capital. There's really nothing good about this place. My wounds have already healed enough. Yet I keep putting off leaving, lingering here day after day. It's nothing but cowardice. I'm only fooling myself. The truth is, I'm afraid, and I have no desire to return to Sheng'an. My lady. Can't we just stay away? Do you think hiding here will keep us safe? The whole realm has long since slipped from the throne's control. Hiding in Lingnan or hiding in Sheng'an makes no difference. We can hide for a while, but not forever. Sooner or later, we must return. Go fetch Yan Shang. My lady. It's late. Is something the matter? That day in the cave, some officers searching for me passed by. I know you heard them. Why didn't you call out? You were already awake then? I was. But I was aching all over. I didn't feel like speaking or even moving. But I didn't expect you to stay perfectly still either. Because I didn't want them to take you away. Why not? I'm no gentleman. There's something I want from you. You hid me from them, saved my life, brought me home, and nursed me back to health, all so I'd feel indebted to you. You hoped I might give you a chance to ride on my coattails and hitch a ride to Sheng'an. That night, when you argued with your father, I heard everything. That's true. I'm sorry. Why apologize? Yan Shang. You did save my life. But my life isn't worth much to begin with. You put yourself in danger, ventured into the woods at night, and went to all that trouble. All for nothing. However, I'm feeling generous. I'm willing to give you another chance. You've served me well these past few days. I'm quite pleased.
