Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus vs Clos des Mouches

The world of Champagne

More than thirty years ago, I knew Bordeaux. Burgundy was another world entirely.

As I began travelling through the region and learning its vineyards, two Beaune Premier Crus played an important role in making Burgundy finally click for me:
Bouchard Père & Fils Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus ‪@Artémis_Domaines‬
Joseph Drouhin Clos des Mouches ‪@maisonjosephdrouhin‬

Neither is a Grand Cru.

But both showed me how two neighbouring Burgundy vineyards, planted to the same grape, could produce completely different personalities. More than thirty years later, I still buy both.

In this video, I revisit these two wines, explain why they became so important to me, how they differ in style and ageing, what I like to serve with them—and whether I still believe they are worth buying at today’s prices of roughly US$160–190.
