Well, tonight Fiel and community members held a vigil calling
for the release of Miguel Parra Hernandez after an ICE agent's SUV hit
him in northwest Harris County earlier this month. Meanwhile, there's
a separate crash involving ICE officers that happened just here today.
Fox 26's Jillian Hartman joining us now live where tonight's vigil
was held. Jillian. Yeah, community members gathered here to support
the man who's in ICE custody and they're calling for his release.
So Fiel held the visual here where he was struck
on October 10th. Take a look at that.
this video. So surveillance video shows
an SUV driven by ICE striking Miguel Parra Hernandez
as he ran through a parking lot near Clay Road and Highway 6.
His attorney says he broke his leg.
ICE says he ran in front of its vehicle
and denies the agent intentionally hit him.
But the Harris County District Attorney
says he believes it was intentional.
Both the DA's office and the Harris County
Sheriff's Office have opened investigations.
ICE says its intended target was Jose Mendoza Cervantes,
who they allegedly saw get into
Parra Hernandez's truck.
However, his attorney says he does not know the wanted man,
and the man was not in his
truck.
ICE says the agent is on administrative leave during
an internal investigation, which is
standard practice.
Fiel is now pushing for his release.
Today, we are here because about two weeks ago,
a man was brutally run down behind us.
A man who for two weeks has been in the hospital in the custody of ICE,
in the custody of the
same agency that did this to him.
And today, we are doubling down on our petition,
on our plea, on our demand for him to be released
immediately. And for him to be able to recuperate
and to be able to come back to his whatever
normalcy of life that he can have.
Now in a separate incident this morning,
authorities say ICE officers were involved
in a minor crash along Old Fulton Road near Antoine
Drive. DHS says officers were trying to stop Luis Eduardo Laredo,
who they say is in the US
illegally. According to DHS,
he drove into a ditch after officers turned on their emergency lights
and sirens. The agency says officers pulled over
and he hit their vehicle while trying to drive
out of the ditch. He then ran before officers caught him.
DHS says Laredo later complained of
chest pains and was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
And right now, he remains in ICE
custody. So the Harris County Sheriff's Office
is also investigating that crash.
And Fiel tells me that it's important or unfortunate
that there has actually been two incidents in less than two weeks.
