While acknowledging his injury history, the speaker believes the Raiders are uniquely positioned to support him given their current roster and depth at the position.
So all Michael Penix had to do for you guys is run a 4-4
and now y'all come crawling back to daddy.
There's a select handful of people,
and by select handful I mean like three,
who have said from the very tippy top of the beginning
that Michael Penix was the guy we should draft.
In fact, in the Madden series I'm currently running on Patreon,
and then at some point before the
draft all the videos will be up online,
I drafted Michael Penix Jr. and I'm currently playing games with him.
If you want to see those games, go to patreon.com slash
Alvaro Reyes, link is in the description below.
And it wasn't like I was coming on here and saying,
well, Caleb Williams will be gone and
Jayden Daniels will be gone,
so we should probably draft Penix because he'll be the
best available guy with the best value at the number 13 selection.
Wrong!
I was saying all the quarterbacks in one pool.
if I could have Caleb Williams, McCarthy,
Drake May, Penix, Bo Nix, Jaden Daniels.
Michael Penix Jr. was my guy.
And if you're new to this channel, I will explain to you
why I think that is the case.
I have been known to get right which quarterbacks will be good or
bad in the National Football League
and I'm pretty simple with my philosophy. Can you make the right
reads? Can you make them accurately?
Can you stay in the pocket in the face of pressure? And this
guy can do all of those things.
The literal only reason why he's not being picked as high as people
think he should be is because he's injury prone.
Even though last season he didn't get hurt at all
especially when he got knocked around
in the national championship game did you think Washington
was going to go to the national championship game last year
when the season started no but this guy
got him there along with a lot of talented people
no doubt about it no doubt about it Michael Penix
Jr. is not a stiff statue pocket passer he can
run he's athletic again another thing I've been
preaching to nobody because everyone thought I
was crazy to say I would take someone like him
over someone like Caleb Williams
but now in his pro day he runs a 4-4-5 and like I said in the
intro you come crawling back to daddy now every Raider fan under
the sun is like we gotta get
this guy don't even trade back
not in the second round we gotta get him at 13 and the reason why
said so early that I wanted him is because
if you say it now it looks like
you have resided to the fact resided resided you're resigned
to the fact that
we're not gonna be able to trade up
to get one of these top three guys or four
guys so now you're like well you know what
this guy was looking better better
and it's only because he's gonna
be available at 13 right right when I stuck
my flag in the Michael Penix bandwagon i'm basically
the owner of the bandwagon and people
have hopped on from time to time
and people have been saying this, yes there are a few out there
but the reason why we would be such a good fit for Penix is not only
because we have wide receivers
who are going to get open instantaneously like
Dre Tucker, Jacoby Myers, Davante Adams, don't know
why i said them in that order, let's move on from that but it's
because we are uniquely situated
to have people ready to go if he gets hurt
and I was saying this before we signed Minshew Mania
I said we have Aiden O'Connell ready to go
if Penix gets drafted beats him out and gets hurt
we got someone who's already been in the system
and now we got someone like Minshew who can be a
mentor to Aiden and Penix we are the perfectly situated team
to draft this guy would I take him
at 13 overall even though I told you that he
is by far the best quarterback in this draft no just
because I think he's the best quarterback
in this draft doesn't mean I think he's a first ballot
surefire hall of famer I think he has the potential
to be the best of all of them but I don't know if
he's going to be that right away
or if he's going to be that at all I don't know if any of these
quarterbacks are going to be good say hello
to the 2021 draft class by the way you've seen that
picture floating around of Minshew stats versus
Trevor Lawrence's stats I'm gonna leave it alone
but what I'll say is this in terms
of the draft it's all about value right Cleveland Farrell bad
value Max Crosby good value I believe
because there's going to be so many quarterbacks and
receivers taken in the top half of this draft we will
be able to get a surefire hall of fame type
player on the defensive side of the football
or along the offensive line if we make the right
selection with the 13th pick
and I'm not ready to risk not getting one of those guys to take a
chance on Michael Penix if he's not going
to be the best player ever right so here's what I'm
proposing we draft somebody at 13 whether it's
a Byron Young whether it's a corner and then if you
think he's gonna fall to your next pick I think you're crazy
so you got to trade back up whether
it's back into the first round,
whether it's higher into the second round, you got to be sure
that wherever you trade, you're going to be able to get him.
There's another scenario in which we
trade back and then trade back up, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
I'm not a GM. I don't have all
the answers for you, okay?
I don't know what it's going to take to get from 40 whatever in the
second round back into the first round.
I don't know where he's going to fall. Could he go in the
top 10 yes could he fall
to the third round maybe I don't know all I know is this Michael Penix
since day one has been the person that I said has
the potential to be the best of all of these guys
that does not mean listen carefully that does
not mean I think he's going to be good immediately or
at all it's about the ceiling
and to me this guy's got the biggest ceiling but because I'm not
positive as to whether or not he can be that good yet there's
no Andrew Luck or Joe Burrow in this
draft i wouldn't take him 13th overall all that to say
if they do take him at 13 overall i'm gonna
go through the freaking roof
because that tells me this Tom Telesco and AP believe in this guy
and i believe in their ability to evaluate talent Antonio Pierce
in one move probably got our number
one corner in Jack Jones and that was with an interim champ Kelly GM
who's still there in the
building by the way so if they think
and Tom Telesco had a hand in drafting Andrew Luck
and he drafted Justin Herbert that this is the right guy
for 13 I'm totally fine with it it's
not my ideal situation or scenario
but I'm not paid millions of dollars to make the picks which
is something you kind of have to remember
when we give our opinions here we don't have all the
tools at our disposal
so we can only go off of what we see with our eyeballs and what's going
on in our brain holes and right now Penix is my guy
and I think it's absolutely hilarious
that it took a 40 time for people to finally get on the bandwagon
and go you know what maybe
the injuries don't matter maybe it don't matter
and listen if we draft him and he gets hurt all
the time oh well we took a shot
and I think our team is uniquely situated to be able to win now
even if we don't hit on this first pick in the draft
if it ends up being Michael Penix we won
eight games we could have won 10 easily we could flip
a couple wins right now without drafting
anybody else I'm not saying that it's likely
but it's possible so if we hit on a couple later guys
it makes up for the fact that we drafted somebody
who doesn't play all the time because he keeps
getting hurt I don't know if the Falcons should take him
at eight I don't know if the Giants should
take him at five because those are teams that are in kind
of this weird limbo but i think a team like
us that's a quarterback away but has multiple
quarterbacks ready to take the reins if he gets
hurt or if he isn't ready i don't know how you don't say we
are the perfect situation for him
like i think if he goes to denver i mean he's toast
who's he throwing to like that that team
is is is abysmal that team is nothing
and at least we have some weapons to be able to usher this guy
into the next phase of his career
and just like Patrick Mahomes he could come into the league
sit a whole year under Minshew or under Aiden
or whatever and then that next year bang he comes in
and he's lockstep with the offense with Luke Getsy
with AP with Devontae and another year
in the system and we're ready to rock
and freaking roll man I think we have to consider
Michael Penix Jr. I also want to get out
in front of this in case there are some people
they're going to comment this because i feel like it could
be coming i know there's a contingent of
people out there who are thinking
but didn't you say that aiden is the guy and that they shouldn't
draft anybody and blah blah blah yeah i did say
that and i still believe that i think you would
be absolutely foolish to just throw aiden aside
because he didn't i don't know make the playoffs
last year i mean he went 500
in the games he played without josh mcdaniels and everyone wants
to throw this in my face. You know, in that Chiefs
game, he didn't complete a pass after
the first quarter. You want that being
our franchise quarterback? That is such a fake
stat because we threw the ball eight more times
the rest of the game. Three of them
were pass interference calls that didn't count,
and two of them were drops. So it's not exactly
something to go off of. The point you can make is,
yeah, we lost the game three to nothing
to the Vikings. Sure, sure. But that's going to happen.
Derek Carr's rookie year had a
game against the Rams where they lost 59 to nothing.
Did Aiden have any of those games? No.
So I wouldn't throw him to the wolves.
I would not let him go because I think he has the potential
to become a Jared Goff type player.
And Jared Goff was a couple of plays away from the Super Bowl
against the San Francisco 49ers in San Francisco.
What am I saying? There's nothing wrong with a
little healthy competition.
And I think our team right now is in a unique situation to be able to
acquire assets that they don't even really need to see
which ones become the best ones that they
can take moving forward. So do I think if we draft Penix,
he'll beat Aiden out? I have no idea. I
think they're both good players.
I think Aiden has the upper hand. He's QB1 right now, even with
Minshew in the room. And I think Aiden's going to beat out Minshew.
But either way, competition
breeds the best people.
And I have nothing wrong with healthy competition. The ball is in your
court now. The ball is in your field.
It doesn't really ring. What are your thoughts? Should we
draft Penix should we draft somebody else what
do you think do you like him do the injuries scare
you lefty so we need a right tackle can Colton
