There's going to be a goaltender
for the Florida Panthers making his NHL debut tonight.
They're in Pittsburgh.
I remember they were in Ottawa last night, emotional game
with Brady Tkachuk going back to Ottawa and everything else.
So they're flying to Pittsburgh, and Cooper Black is starting in goal.
Good story, Scott, right?
Yeah, good story.
AHL goaltender.
He's 25 years old.
He's bounced around the minors there, paid his dues, if you will.
Pretty good season last year down
with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL.
uh 2.47 goals against average over .96 percentage
in 42 games in which he won 25 13 and 4 right so
okay big deal we've seen that before right uh
not this dude i don't know if you've seen a picture of
him but he stands six foot eight
as a goaltender he will become the biggest goaltender in nhl
history when he gets the start tonight i saw
that six foot eight you know my bad i should have given
the guys a picture of him i saw it on twitter
this afternoon i didn't realize i was doing the
show until late so i couldn't get it
his his his waist Craig comes up to the post of the crossbar
that that that's how tall he is i mean his whole body
is on is over the crossbar it is just i don't
know how the dude gets down to stop the puck i mean
because you know most goaltenders they scrunch
right they scrunch down a little bit
and they can slide to the left they slide to the right and they
block it with their shoulders and stuff you know kick save maybe
but this dude is so tall he'd have
to be on his knees literally to stop the puck
with his chest unless the puck is going to go five feet
over the net so i mean he's
but he's pretty good i mean obviously he's in the nhl right and even in
the AHL which was pretty good hockey he had some success
so i don't know how he stops pucks like
How about a slap shot to the left or right?
I mean, his legs are so big.
How is he stopping a puck that's on the ice when there's a scrum?
I don't know, Scott.
That's a good one.
I don't know.
You have to tell me.
I don't know.
It doesn't seem normal for me.
But, I mean, how did he do in the minors, Scott?
I have no clue.
Like, this is new to me.
So, is there any data or anything like that of how he performed?
I suppose they wouldn't call him up.
Is this out of emergency of any kind for the Panthers?
Jake Barstrom uh got
hurt, so he's going to be out a couple of weeks.
But he was pretty good down in the AHL, 25, 13, and 4.
He had a goals against average of 2.47.
So that's pretty good.
I mean, under three, right?
Yeah, I would say so.
So I don't know if people go out of their way to watch hockey,
but I'm going to go out of my way tonight
to watch at least a little bit of this stuff.
I just want to see how he, you know.
But I guess if he can stop pucks in the AHL
He can in the NHL
I know they're coming at you probably a little bit faster
But I'm fascinated by a guy that's nearly
7 feet playing goalie
And like I said, when you look at the picture
And you see him standing next to the net
That's where it's really tough
That must be funny
That puts it into perspective
Give me a reason to check it out tonight then
