This is 22 News at 4 p.m. Digital Edition.
Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to 22 News at 4.
I'm Claire Overton.
We'll get to your top four at 4 in just a moment.
But first, we always have a look at commuter traffic and weather.
Let's bring in 22 News Storm Team Meteorologist Brian Lapis.
Hey, I love the jazz hands.
It's been a long time since anybody's kind
of thrown some jazz hands at me.
Thanks.
You're welcome.
Let's see the weather and traffic.
Yeah, let's take a look at it, shall we?
A pretty quiet day weather-wise, but oh my goodness, we've got some
problems here on I-291.
More than likely there's an accident here and then there's some
rubbernecking on one end
and just a regular slowdown on the other. So just keep that in
mind over the next hour or so.
There may be some exceptionally slow traffic on 291 and we've got
the usual slowdowns developing downtown.
No other major problems that I can see on the Pike or 91 and
the usual uh afternoon traffic
at our on our downtown surface streets we got up into the
mid to upper 60s again today 67 Greenfield 67 Westfield nearly 70
in Springfield and probably
there may have been some
car thermometers this afternoon that had 70 degree readings on them
so as we move forward into the evening hours what's left
of subtropical storm Josephine
continues to move away from us
that means clear skies mostly clear skies for us tonight be a little
bit more on the crisp side here tomorrow
and for the weekend we'll show you with our 22 News Storm
team forecast Claire thanks Brian
the looksmaxing live streamer known as Clavicular was
arraigned in Orleans District Court today
and pleaded not guilty to charges that he raped a
17 year old girl at his family's Cape Cod home
20 year old Brayden Peters is accused of giving
the girl alcohol until she was drunk
and then sexually assaulting her when she visited him
in Chatham last May.
Peters has denied the allegations through his lawyers, saying the
sexual encounter was consensual.
Chicopee police are investigating a crash that left a pedestrian
seriously injured early this morning.
Police stated on social media that the crash happened
just before 3 a.m. on Center Street.
The road was shut down for several hours near the Bullseye Bar
and it has since reopened.
The Chicopee Police Crash Reconstruction Team
is working to find out what caused the incident.
22 News will update the story as soon
as more information becomes available.
A two-car crash caused traffic delays
on I-91 northbound in Holyoke this morning.
State police responded to a report
of the crash at around 8 this morning,
and they say one of the vehicles drifted off the road into a guardrail
before spinning out into traffic and colliding with another car.
The drivers were evaluated by EMS
and declined further medical attention.
Down in Connecticut, there are new developments related
to the Waterbury captivity case.
Kimberly Sullivan, the mother charged
with keeping her son captive for over 20 years,
is now being accused of sexual assault by her daughter.
The daughter, identified only by her initials as JMS,
told police last year she had been sexually assaulted
for a large portion of her life.
Waterbury Police confirmed to our Connecticut sister station
that they are investigating a sexual abuse complaint,
but would not officially connect it to Sullivan.
The new allegation was revealed in a motion filed
by Sullivan's attorney last week.
Sullivan's daughter is also the half-sister of the man
who was allegedly held captive.
She is considered a material witness in the captivity case, in part
because she was in contact with her half-brother after he set fire
to escape confinement last year.
The next court date is set for November 23rd.
And now we have another check at today's weather.
It was a super nice day, and now I'm getting mad
at my apartment for shutting the A.C. off too early.
Yeah, you know, it's really, it's this odd time where it's cold
in the morning and mild in the afternoon.
Here's the thing, is that we're on a kind of a slope where it's going
to be colder in the morning and not so mild in the afternoon.
Especially as we approach the weekend
with highs only in the 50s and low 60s.
So we're getting there. Yeah,
I would be more concerned about when are they going to turn the
heat on as opposed to I'm not a big heat person.
Me neither. Okay, good. All right. Put on a sweater.
Maybe heat from the sun, but not necessarily
in my apartment. I like it. Let's take a look at
what's happening right now.
Plenty of solar radiation as we speak, although the sun's
getting lower in the sky.
What's left of subtropical storm Josephine moving out to sea.
We had those fringe clouds from Josephine earlier today.
They've been long gone actually for most
of the day so sunshine now will uh kind of translate
or become mostly clear skies tonight
still a little breezy especially during
the evening out of the north so uh pretty quiet
night other than that you may notice a bit
of a breeze here during the evening hours evening
temperatures will be in the 50s
and 40s overnight lows in the 30s you can see here tomorrow morning
at seven uh clear air another beautiful day sunshine 10 noontime bright
and then bright
right through the afternoon.
High temperatures tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 50s.
If we get down into the 20s to start the day on Saturday,
we'll show you on 22 News at 5.
The International Volleyball Hall of Fame hosting
its annual Mayor's Reception in Holyoke to
celebrate the new class of inductees.
The International Volleyball Hall of Fame is a
non-profit that preserves and promotes the sport's history
while honoring players, coaches and more.
The class of 2026 features nine inductees representing indoor
and beach competitions, officiating, coaching,
leadership, and para-volleyball advancements.
Special awards were presented in part of the celebration as well.
Greenfield Savings Bank announcing
their three-year sponsorship agreement with UMass Athletics.
The partnership aims to support the university's football,
basketball, and hockey programs through 2028.
Officials say the collaboration focuses
on the bank's connection with the Amherst community.
The partnership includes UMass Sports Properties
that manage multimedia rights
and sponsorships for the university's athletics as well.
The new agreement started on September 3rd.
And now for a look at what we're working on for 22 News starting at 5.
The owner of Nadeem's Mediterranean Grill in Springfield
returning to court today for a pretrial conference.
We'll tell you what his legal team is planning on filing.
Plus, we're tracking the latest on the Lindsay Clancy case
after her attorney attempted to launch
an investigation into the holdout juror.
And finally, we'll take you to UMass Amherst,
where educators held a rally this afternoon to advocate for fair wages.
Just a reminder that traffic is running slow
in either direction on I-291,
kind of on the east end of I-291,
so there may be an accident or some
construction here that's slowing things down.
Otherwise, just mild delays right now downtown,
and I-91 north of the city is running fine,
and the pike is running fine in either direction.
Our run of fair weather continues into the weekend.
We'll update on 22 News at 5.
