The battle over the Trump tariffs is heating up once again,
both in the courtroom and overseas.
Fox's Gianna Gelosci has more from New York.
They have been screwing us really, and they're not doing it anymore.
President Trump is sticking to his guns
when it comes to the 50% tariffs on billions worth
of Canadian goods. But now the courts
are once again being asked to intervene.
A New Jersey food importer filed a lawsuit
with the US Court of International Trade,
claiming the president doesn't have the power
to invoke a depression-era law to justify the
tariffs. But President Trump says Section 338
of the Tariff Act of 1930, which has never
been used before, was justified by a high trade deficit
with our neighbors to the north.
They do 95% of their business with us,
we do very little with them, and we lose 90 billion
a year. I would say that's a little too much.
But Democrats say the tariffs are contributing
to what they call an affordability crisis,
and they're making it a big issue on the campaign trail.
People can't afford groceries or healthcare
because they have to fill up the tank.
The tariffs have sent groceries to their all-time high.
It comes as Secretary of State Marco Rubio ends
a visit to India without signing a new
trade deal.
Both sides have been working towards an agreement
that would bring tariff relief, but some sticking
points remain.
No matter what you make, no matter what you innovate,
it has to get from you to the places
you're sending it to unless you only want to sell to your own economy.
requires free and unfettered ability to trade.
Rubio says he expects the India trade deal to
be finalized sometime in the next few weeks.
