We mentioned that we do have some new information about the man
who was shot and killed on the George Washington Bridge.
Just to give you a little bit of background,
just in case you missed the first part of that story,
this was our lead story earlier this morning.
The shooting happened at about 7.18 Tuesday night,
so the height of rush hour or toward the end of the evening rush.
Port Authority police initially responded
to reports of a one-car crash.
Well, the NYPD says it received a 911 call about
a man shot on the upper level roadway.
Police say the victim suffered
a gunshot wound to the back of his shoulder.
Authorities initially reported a wound to his head.
Now, he was taken to Inglewood Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
There's video out there that you can see a bullet hole visible
in the rear passenger side window of the car.
two law enforcement officials briefed on the case
of the shooting appeared to be a road rage
incident of some kind our sources are telling us
that this looks like a road rage incident
now here's the new piece of information uh we just got it
in Francis Wang working the case
just sent this to me the man who was shot
and killed on the George Washington Bridge
was a Con Edison employee so the man
who was shot the man who was killed worked for Con Ed
apparently driving home from work
the 46 year old driving toward New Jersey Tuesday night when he
was shot on the bridge's upper level sources tell us investigators
are looking into whether the
shooting may have stemmed from a road rage incident
of course that has not been publicly confirmed yet
at least not yet by police Con Ed apparently did put out
a statement uh we do have that statement
i am going to read it here now live we
are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a member
of the Con Edison family in this senseless act of violence.
Our deepest condolences go out to
his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew and loved him.
Those are the words from Con
Ed about one of their employees who was shot
and killed last night on the George Washington Bridge,
apparently as the result of a road rage incident.
Just as important this morning, this shooter,
the person who is responsible for killing
this person is still on the loose. The NYPD is now
working this case. We have not received a public update
or briefing yet, but we expect that at some
point that will happen. This is an active investigation.
You can see detectives working
all night for more than four hours there,
six hours actually, from about seven until one o'clock
in the morning, gathering information, gathering evidence.
One of the most complicating parts of
this, one of the most difficult parts is trying to find someone
who may have seen it, or at least
trying to catch up with that person now.
Because if this happened on the way to the GWB, if it
happened from one car to the next,
if someone didn't get out of the car, if they were sitting
in their car and fired into the other one, did somebody see it?
And if you did see it, did that
person, whoever saw it, just keep driving
because they don't really know exactly what's going on,
only to find out this morning that this was a deadly shooting.
Obviously, police are asking anyone
who has any information to call Crime Stoppers.
In case you don't know that number, it is 1-800-577-TIPS.
But again, confirmed to us by Con Ed, the man who was killed
on the George Washington Bridge is a Con Edison employee.
They said, quite simply, they are heartbroken by the loss.
That's the latest information that we have.
