We have some breaking news, though, beyond the rain.
Stu Mendel, he is in Sky Fox.
He's over this breaking news situation.
This is Bell Gardens High School,
where police activity has this high school on lockdown.
Quite the pictures down below with the student body being evacuated
for all intents and purposes.
Right, Stu?
Well, they're being moved, that is for sure.
The school clearly on lockdown
and a number of law enforcement here on scene.
And this all stems from a student bringing a gun to school.
No shots were fired.
Nobody was injured.
Thank goodness for that.
But the school definitely on lockdown.
Law enforcement out there in force.
And they have been checking each one
of these classrooms going room by room down there.
And we haven't seen the canines,
but this doesn't mean they're not there.
Pretty much every corner of this high school,
they got a law enforcement, be it on a motorcycle,
walking the campus.
law enforcement vehicles they've got school
police down there Bell Gardens police Bell police
and of course the parents they're going
to be concerned as well let me show you where they've
been bringing the students now the students have been on lockdown
and you can see a number of them
being brought out here to this football field
and late breaking news they are starting to release
some of those students to their parents that gate
if you have a student here and you want to go pick
them up. This seems to be the only spot where they're allowing
the students out at. That's
Habronaria Road. Sorry about that pronunciation.
If I said it wrong, I'm trying my best. Right at
the corner of Watch Street. That's an easy one for me.
Now we can say confidently no students have
been injured, no shots have been fired,
but we do know that one student was taken into custody.
It seems like what the plan is, is law enforcement and faculty have
been walking the students from the classrooms that they've been locked
down in and bringing them over to that field that you see right there.
And now we're starting to see some
of them being released out into with their parents.
I'm checking right now, and this is a little disconcerting.
There's still some students in some of these classrooms there.
We've been watching them in those windows
for quite a bit this afternoon.
We've been here for more than an hour.
Sorry about that.
That's actually exhaust from Skyfox.
But what's going on right now is this campus still being searched,
but they are now starting to release some of those students.
Hopefully they're going to their parents.
But at any rate, we're starting to see some
of those high school students making their way off the campus.
The campus was on lockdown.
Right now, I would think that possibly it's a partial lockdown
because they're allowing the children out.
Parents have been out here on Habronaria Street
and the other surrounding streets,
but apparently that's the only spot they're letting them out at.
We've watched as the parents migrated along the perimeter.
Law enforcement, they are still out here in force,
and they haven't said this is over as of yet,
but it's definitely nice to see some of those students being released.
Marla?
Hey, Stu, do we know anything about the student
who brought a gun to school?
No, Marla, that's the one that we don't.
And I have to, I'm saying this out loud because I have to shut
your audio off when I talk because we have that IFB issue.
But you can see that the student's still continuing
to funnel out of the bigger buildings right now.
That's probably one of the main buildings there.
And you can see law enforcement still out there in force
that looks like a deputy's outfit as they're still on campus
and in numbers in these buildings and apparently still searching
for whatever that threat is that may be here.
But it is definitely good to see that the children are making
their way off of the campus and some reuniting with parents,
others making their way home the best they can.
And I know that there's buses involved.
We haven't seen any of those yet, but hopefully they'll be able
to get those kids on those buses and back to their homes shortly.
Well, it is a sight to see,
and I know that parents must feel such a sense of relief.
And of course, the students down below to be able to be released
from this very scary, intense situation at school.
Again, this is all unfolding live here on Fox 11 and Fox Local.
Bell Gardens High School was on lockdown
these students were moved from the classrooms onto
the football field some of them still we
were just seeing were still there inside the school
nonetheless we're seeing this happen
and we can only assume that to your point Stu maybe we're
just under a partial lockdown at this point
because we did see some of those students still
in the classrooms yet some of them are being released
to their parents i think it's going to
be more of an orderly type of dismissal.
They want to make sure that the students are escorted
through the campus area.
There aren't going to be like a large number of officers with them,
but we have seen in some of these groups,
they are walking with law enforcement officers,
definitely walking with faculty members as they're making
their way through this campus area. And
that building that I'm showing you right there,
that's where we saw them in the window. Some of
them still right there you can see some
of those uh students these uh clearly have not got the uh
it's clear to go order as of yet
but i'm sure they're doing this in an orderly manner bringing
all their students out to that uh out to the football field
and then out of that gate hopefully
to their parents and also maybe just releasing them
for the day uh if there's some buses i did
see one school bus making their way over to that location
but also it seems like they might have
been planning this to be a longer type of situation
because they did bring out quite a
bit of bottled water probably to distribute
to the students as they waited but right now something
must have changed law enforcement changing
the the tone of the situation the best way to say it
and allowing the students to make their way off campus
Thanks
for
watching.
