Atlanta army veteran receives brand new roof

We've got a great story coming up next. An Atlanta Army veteran is getting a new roof thanks to a program honoring those who have served our country. Cannot wait to hear about this. Let's get right out to Maria Guzman, who is live with more. Maria, looks like a great day, beautiful day out there. What's going on? Hey, Paul. It is a beautiful day here at Lakewood Heights. The crew here has been hard at work since 6 a.m., and this is all for Deborah Scott. She is an Army veteran. She served for our country for nine years. And I'm going to go ahead and flip my camera to show you guys the scene and also introduce you to Matt, who is with Brooks Roofing. So, Matt, you guys have been here since the morning. Walk me through the stage right now. Where are we at? So right now we have the roof torn off. We have redecked a lot of the house. We've removed the chimney from the house. We're in the process on the back of the house right now, reframing a lot of things where she had some major leaks. Next, we'll go back on, we'll start covering the roof. Gotcha. A project like this, for example, how long does it take, but also how much does it cost? Because I see you guys are fully remodeling her whole roof. A project like this could be anywhere upwards of $25,000 to $30,000. So the fact that Ms. Scott is getting this for free, saving her a lot of money. to me about who you guys are working with because I know with several partners behind this to make this happen. So we're working with Owens Corning and Project Atlanta on this. Owens Corning provides all the material. We provide all the labor for the project. It's been an ongoing project we've been working on for probably a couple months now. It's finally all come together and today's the big day. Awesome and tell me a little bit about the background of this house. You mentioned earlier how it's an older build. So what are some of the challenges or issues that Miss Scott had to face in her years of living here? It is an older house. It's built in the 30s, I believe. The chimney had deteriorated, was falling in. She had some major leaks there. She had some major leaks in the back of her house just from rot and just being old. This house, we've had to do a lot of framing on it, a lot of redecking. We'll put the house all back up to code. You'll I have a full Owens Corning roofing system. It's going to look like a brand-new house. It's going to be protected for sure. That's awesome. And this is the first time that you guys are doing this, and they tell me that they want to do more projects like this that give back to the community. So I'll send things back to you guys in the studio. Yeah, Maria, thank you. Love seeing that work going on right there again under a beautiful blue sky. That house is looking great. So we'll check back in with you later, Maria. Thank you very much.
