Wall Street is sifting through several third
quarter earnings reports this morning,
including some of the big names in tech.
Joining us now to talk about it, financial advisor Chris Murkowski.
Good morning, Chris.
Good morning.
I'm looking through some of these reports and I'm wondering,
is this more of the K-shape economy?
Some are doing really well, some are not.
I mean, SpaceX is one that's going to jump.
We have a lot of companies dealing with high prices of gas and layoffs.
What are you making of these reports?
yeah it's a k-shaped economy it's a k-shaped market
as well you kind of bring that up it's a
lot of a lot of capital uh flowing
to these companies they said if you know if you were a
an alien and you were to land here on earth
and you were to say where where should i start
investing my money i'm probably going
to be heading towards tech based upon the flows in
this direction you know with that being said well one
of the things that um i've tried to caution
people about is they're not all going to work out
that's just now how it is and any sort of
industrial technical revolution is going to be winners
and there's going to be losers this is
why it's important to take some profits along
the way uh don't try to be the smartest person
in the room you try to be the smartest person
in the room you try to get in the exact bottom and
out at the exact top you end up losing
um set certain parameters for your tech investments
And if you have, you've done very well.
Yeah, we pay people like you, financial advisors, big companies
with our 401ks so that we don't have to try to time the markets.
What would you consider? I know we talked
about tech obviously is doing well right now.
What would you consider right now that the industries
that are maybe the bellwether stocks,
that's kind of for people who don't know, like the people
that like leading indicators of where the economy is maybe headed?
well when you talk about the K-shaped
that's part of the issue right now because we
have laggards in certain areas since you're having
this conversation as of late it's kind of
interesting you know how it's bifurcating
and almost everything at this point in time where
you have nothing but super high-end hotels
and low-end hotels there's kind of like not much
of an in-between anymore i mean even
the Chipotle's of the world they're a $20 burrito
for crying out loud.
I mean, what is the in-between at this point in time? That's going
to have to settle its way through.
And I do hope, and I think we're all hoping, that we're going to
get some sort of conclusion in regards to what's going
on in the Middle East with Iran and also
with Ukraine and Russia so we can get these prices down.
And then I think we'll get a little bit
better of a look at where we're at.
Yeah, it's so much uncertainty, as you mentioned here and
and around the world. A bit of advice that you
are maybe giving customers to kind of deal with
this right now? Well, everyone's situation is unique and different.
I'm not a hedge fund
manager. Every portfolio at our firm is completely different
and has to be handled as such. It's the
same thing that we've been saying for some time.
And we've had positions that we've owned for years
and years and years that have done extraordinarily well.
That doesn't mean I'm not going to take
profits off the table. Like I said,
don't try to be the smartest person in the room. I think it's
going higher. Well, it already has gone up pretty high.
So maybe rotate some assets into areas that
haven't done as well. All right.
Chris Markowski, we appreciate you. Thanks for joining. Have a
great day. You too.
