You know, it's been relentless on so many parts of our coastline,
including Point Dume in Malibu.
Gigi Garcia is live there with more on the situation. Gigi.
Well, they're not moving sand here like where Maria is.
What they're moving are boulders and certainly very big boulders trying
to shore up the road here, part of which has already collapsed.
You can see right behind the yellow tape,
you sort of can't see anything.
And then to the left, you can see all those boulders.
And if photographer Brian Shaw keeps panning all the way to the left,
you can see the work has already begun today,
trying to get ahead of the rain, continuing to move those boulders.
That's why the excavator is here.
We're on Westward Beach Road, if you're familiar with the area.
This is right across the street from the iconic Sunset Restaurant.
It's been here since the 1970s,
but the building has actually been here for decades.
And this is where contractors have been working now trying
to shore up the street, which again, part of which has collapsed.
Now, take a look at this video
because the collapse exposed an underground water main
and forced the closure for a period of time of Westward Beach Road.
It is open now.
The city of Malibu sharing the photo of the unprotected pipe.
No cars were allowed as the crews were working
to get their heavy machinery in here.
And local water service was turned off,
but the Sunset Restaurant is open, we're told.
No word yet, though, when the work will be completed.
Now, the rain, as Samada has been telling you and Maria Quibon, could
hit half an inch to an inch per hour at times, especially tonight.
That's enough to overwhelm storm drains and cause flooding,
and we could see creeks and small rivers rise quickly.
So, a reminder, if you live in a flood-prone area,
this is the time to get ready.
whether you're in Malibu or other points,
keep an eye on the updated forecast and be prepared to act
fast if flooding does occur.
And of course, never try to drive through flooded roads. Even a small
amount of moving water can be dangerous.
Bringing it back here live, the Sunset Restaurant, the owner
has gone on social media to make it a point
to tell folks he is open for business, asking folks
to come, have a drink, grab something to eat with him,
even though the repairs are happening right
across the street. The road to Point Dume State Beach,
though, is closed. No word on when that
will reopen. And you are looking live at all the work being done,
part of the road, again,
collapsing here, and they're trying to shore it up
with these boulders. Reporting live,
I'm Gigi Garcia. Back to you.
Yeah, depending on how effective it is,
that might be the longer-term solution.
Seeing this up and down the coast, Gigi.
All right, thank you. Thank you.
