As it gets colder, time is slipping away
to finish any outdoor home improvement projects.
Yeah, word to the wise, if a crew knocks
on your door offering last-minute help
because they're in the neighborhood, be very cautious.
Jenna Sachs has tonight's contact fix alert.
Since September, Wisconsin Consumer Protection has
been getting reports of asphalt paving crews
showing up at people's houses
and offering to pour new driveways for a low cost.
State officials say be careful.
Some of the contractors will take the money and disappear.
so they don't even do any work.
Others will turn around and take the money,
put down some of the asphalt,
but then demand more money in order to complete the job.
A St. Francis woman was approached
around this time last year.
She ended up with a driveway in even worse shape.
And they said, we just did a job nearby
and we have some cement leftover that's already mixed
and it won't last that long.
If you are visited by a door-to-door crew,
resist high pressure tactics.
Document their car and license plate number
and don't let them inside your home.
If you need your driveway done, take time,
do the research, pick the right contractor for you.
Get recommendations from friends and multiple bids.
Pick a local business that will be available
if there's a quality of work issue down the road.
I'm Jenna Sachs, Contact 6.
And they're good, they'll try.
They'll try to give you the hard sell, so be warned.
Be warned.
Now, if a meteorologist comes to your door and says,
I can give you a forecast. You say... I know Tom Locke.
Yeah. Get out of here. That's exactly what
you're saying. Yeah, exactly. I've got a guy for that.
I have a guy. I've got the guy. You guys,
yeah, meteorologists are pretty popular, right,
this week because of all the sunshine that we've
had. And I think you're going to like this forecast.
But the fog, are you ready for this?
Take a look at this. Because this morning, well,
you know if you were driving in it how thick this
was, but this might be one of the coolest time lapses I've seen
in quite some time. This is from
our Estabrook Park tower camera.
Yes, you can see the buildings of downtown peeking out from above
the fog. This fog was only a few hundred feet thick.
You're looking at a stratus cloud, and then
as the sun came out, warmed us up, fog went away.
Let's rewind this here for you. Let's go back to
before sunrise. Look at this. This is so cool.
So you can see the fog really building in here.
And again, if you were in one
of the tall buildings downtown, it was blue and sunny
the whole time. Isn't that crazy?
So your head was literally in the clouds this morning,
a stratus cloud on your way to work and school.
It was so thick, but that is so cool. And the
temperature equals the dew point. That is when fog forms.
