James Kaufman, World
News Report today.
This one coming to you from one
of our badass subscribers, Corey Burnett.
Corey informed us that we had a sea mound,
which is also known as an underwater volcano,
erupted off the Oregon coast this week.
It actually did.
it's called the Axial Sea Mound, and it did erupt.
This is scary, scary, scary. This has
to do with the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
So, an underwater volcano erupted off the Oregon coast
this week. An underwater volcano about 480 kilometers off
the coast of Oregon erupted last
week and again perhaps this week according
to network seafloor seismometers that captured the
large spike in seismic activity as it happened
the deep sea network on the axial volcano or sea
mount is part of a larger program called
the ocean observatory initiative that has nearly finished
installing underwater monitors equipped in several parts of the ocean.
This right here is the Axial Seamount.
You can see it's a volcano underwater right there
on the Juan de Fuco Plate
that's being pushed under the North American Plate,
i.e. the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
Go figure.
Can y'all believe we've had
an underwater eruption just off the coast of Oregon?
This is, well, scary news.
Thank you, Corey Burnett again.
Again, part of the Ocean Observatories Initiative,
which is made up of several different areas.
The project, the first of its kind, will provide unprecedented looks
at the currents, marine life, and chemistry.
of the deep sea, researchers say,
spurring a new age of exploration in earth science.
Guys, the one thing we've never really explored
is the bottom of our oceans,
and they're actually starting to do that,
and we're seeing volcanic activity
just off the coast of Oregon and Washington here,
which is basically part of the Juan de Fuca Plate
that's subsiding under the North American Plate,
And this is bad news.
We call this the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
So let's hope that this is not an uptick
for volcanoes onshore in Oregon or Washington.
God bless you all.
Give us a thumbs up.
Thank you, Corey, again.
And God bless you all.
