I know you know her,
but I see Julia from a little different perspective.
We both know that she's very smart.
I mean, she's got a Ph.D., for God's sakes.
Julia is an adult.
Not everybody in Washington, D.C., is.
Julia is thoughtful.
She's temperate.
Julia doesn't swing at every pitch.
She doesn't get caught up in the mania of the moment.
She's deeply analytical.
I work with her.
She on the House Appropriations Committee,
me on the Senate Appropriations Committee.
And I watch her look at every side of an issue.
She can work with anybody.
I guess you could say she's charming.
And Washington, D.C. needs a little bit more of that.
But I've also seen a side
of Julia Letlow that you have.
I have seen her fangs.
Let me tell you what I mean by that.
Yes, Julia's smart, and yes, she's respectful, and yes, she's charming.
But if you get between Julia Letlow
and what's best for Louisiana and the people of Louisiana,
she will devour you like a light snack.
It will eat you up
and spit the bones on the floor.
And that's what you need in the United States Senate.
Now, I endorsed Julia right after she became our nominee.
And that's what I'm here to do today, is endorse her again.
I want to say a word about the election.
Some of you have voted.
Some of you will vote.
But I know there are a lot of people out there that they won't vote.
Happens in every election
I want to speak to them
And let me preface what I'm about to say
By saying I don't hate anybody
I don't
When I say my prayers
One of the things I always ask God is
Don't let me hate
It's not worth it
I look for grace wherever I can find it
And I'm proud to live in a country
Where you can say and do
What you think and what you believe
So I don't hate anybody
Who disagrees with me
But at the same time,
part of my job and Julia's job is to tell you the truth.
I mean, I'm not speaking for Julia,
but God gave me the right to remain silent, but not the ability.
So I'm not going to bubble wrap it.
Republicans are not perfect.
But let me tell you something, the other side's crazy.
And it's not everybody on the other side.
It's not. I've got many friends.
I know everybody in the United States Senate.
Julia will shortly.
I like my Democratic colleagues,
and I have many friends who are Democrats.
But their party has been taken over by a group of people
that I don't recognize, and they frankly don't recognize.
They're led by Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez,
Mayor Mamdani in New York, Senator Bernie Sanders.
They hope to add to their number
Mr. Abdul El-Sayed from Illinois
Or Michigan, rather, you might have read about it
And these folks are entitled to their opinion
But I'm entitled to mine
The American people deserve to be governed by normal people
They don't deserve to be governed by people
Who want to open our prisons
Open our borders
Defund the police
Defund ICE
and every one of whom think
and know the words by heart to the Cuban national anthem the democratic
socialists the group i just uh described
that every single one of them they hate free enterprise
let me tell you something socialism is for morons
and if you don't believe me go ask the former
people of the USSR india used
to be a socialist country they're not today china used to be a
socialist country. Even Israel used to be a socialist country.
Every one of these countries
rejected that economic and socio-political theory.
That's why I say socialism is for morons.
Look, you remember when the Berlin Wall fell?
Some of you may not read about it. Who ran when
the Berlin Wall fell? Who ran to which side?
That tells you all you need to know about socialism.
The American people don't deserve to be governed by people
who hate Dr. Seuss and Abraham Lincoln and George Washington
and Mr. Potato Head because they think they're all racist.
And these folks do.
It's not everyone in their party, but they're in control.
The American people don't deserve to be governed by people
who hyperventilate on their yoga mats, if you use the wrong pronoun.
Who think our children ought to be able to change genders at recess.
And who think they're smarter
and more virtuous than the American people.
Now they have the right to believe that.
But they are in charge of the Democratic Party.
And that is just a fact.
You can write that down and take it home to mama.
I see it every single day.
And Julia Lentlow and I
and the other members of my party are fighting back.
Now, don't forget that part where I said I don't hate anybody.
I don't, okay?
But I've watched Julia's opponents, and I don't care what he says.
I don't care what he puts on TV.
He will, I know who's running his party.
And if he gets to Washington, D.C.,
he will move and follow Chuck Schumer into the chute like a calf.
And you can write that down, too, and take it home to mom.
Now, I want you to go out and vote for Julia.
Julia and I believe that America's future, that Louisiana's future,
that Acadiana's future can be better than our present or our past.
We do.
Julia and I believe that we're only as good as our dreams.
We shouldn't fear our dreams, fear our future.
We ought to grab for it.
Julia and I believe that we're only as valuable as our children.
She talked eloquently about the children, and that's important.
But I'm not going to bubble wrap it.
The water in Washington, D.C. is not going to clear up
until you get the pigs out of the creek
and keep the pigs out of the creek.
So I want you to, I am here,
I'm proud as I can be to endorse Julia Letlow.
She can be your next down at the state summit, I can tell you that.
But I want you to go vote, okay?
And tell folks at your church to go vote.
And tell folks at the grocery store to go vote.
And I know you're going to run into some folks who will say,
oh, you know, it doesn't matter, my vote doesn't matter.
and you'll run into Miss Betty Lou
and Miss Betty Lou will say,
oh, you know, I'm tired.
I don't feel like going and voting.
Julia's going to win anyway.
Here's what you say to Miss Betty Lou.
You say, Miss Betty Lou, go vote.
I know you might be tired.
Go vote.
Look at it this way.
If dead people can do it,
so can you, Miss Betty Lou.
Y'all get out and vote for Julia Letlow,
the next United States Senator from Louisiana.
Come on.
Right here.
Julia Letlow, folks, she's headed to Washington.
Write it down.
Thank y'all for coming.
And listen, y'all take the rest of the day off, okay?
