Hello, my name is Amber and welcome back to a lovely yarn podcast.
I hope you're all finding
a little bit of time to enjoy your knitting
no matter where you're located in the world.
Here in the Northern Hemisphere,
we are settling into fall and so today I wanted to do an October
pattern roundup featuring all new patterns
that have just been released this month, which is
October of 2026. There is a wide variety
of patterns included in this pattern roundup and
there are also some really cute
and fun color work fall inspired projects. So whether you're
knitting along with the changing leaves outside on the trees
or you're heading into your spring
season, I hope that you can all find one
or two new patterns to add to your knitting queue. So
let's take a look at what's new in the knitting world
on Ravelry this month. Okay everyone I am
so excited for this episode.
I have a whole Ravelry bundle here. There's like I think 18
patterns that I have chosen.
There have been some really good new releases that are very much
fall inspired, just cozy and scrumptious.
So I'm really excited to share those with you. Before we
get started on that I do want to mention what I'm wearing I will try
to put in a clip actually like
a full on video so you can see it
but this is called the Gloam Cardigan and it is a pattern
by Caitlin Hunter I knit this several years ago maybe in 2022
or 2023 and I cannot for the life of
me remember what yarn I used
and this was back in the days before I wrote things down so I think it
might have been a the Juniper Moon organic merino
or something like that i will try to look back
into the youtube archives
and see if i can find a video where i talked about this one but uh yeah
i can't guarantee i'll be able to find that information for you
but this is a great uh it's
a great short sleeved cardigan perfect for those of us
who are just run a little bit warm all right
we're going to just jump right in with this episode
and we're going to start with accessories
and then we will move our way through
into larger projects like garments. So the pattern I first
want to talk about is called the Kathy Kerchief
and this is a pattern by Alicia Plumer. I actually
really fell in love with this pattern
when I saw Alicia talk about it on her Instagram feed. I
think it was like a couple of weeks ago.
Maybe it wasn't even that long at this point, but this is
a DK weight neck kerchief or head kerchief
or it's it's a very small so to me it looks like you'd
only be able to tie it once in the back
so wear the point in the front and tie it in the back or
you could wear it I saw that some people actually wore it
as a head kerchief and I also noticed that
there were a variety of projects some knit
in wool based yarns as well as some knit in plant
based yarn so you could go either way
with this now she did write in the description of this that
it is pointelle inspired
but instead of having the little eyelets she actually incorporated tiny
little cute bobbles okay the next pattern that i want
to talk about is actually part of a collection
this is a collection of three different pattern types you
do have to purchase each of these
patterns individually but this is called the pick
your potion collection and this collection was
designed by Virginia Sattler Reimer
or Reimer I'm not sure how she pronounces her last name
but it is a stranded color work collection I first found
the cowl on Ravelry when I was doing
research for this project
and I really love the look of it it does use six different colors of
worsted weight yarn but you're only using
at the most two at a time as far as I can see when I was
reading the project page so that should keep it simple it
but um it is just a simple cowl with
the color work in between two ribbed edges
and then also there is a pattern for mitts as well
as a pattern for a hat so you could basically buy the yarn
and make three different patterns with
it i think that you would probably have enough yarn
if you just she might even give i think she
actually gives information on how to have enough yarn
to make all three projects using the yarn
that she recommends. I haven't really
been a big shawl knitter as of late because I do have so many
shawls that I have knit in the past
but I think this new release from Jennifer Wiseman is really
beautiful. It is called the Ocean Dunes shawl
and it is a side to side shawl meaning it's knit from
one point to the next and i think it's really beautiful it has like
the undulating wave looking
designs in it it uses about 500 yards of dk weight yarn
and she includes optional charts as well as
the pattern being completely written out like
so you have written instructions and then optional
charts that you can also refer to so this motif
is achieved using lace some lace work slip stitches
and then there's also an I-cord edge that is worked as you go along
and it is as I said a
side to side knit which is one of my favorites.
I really like the look of it. I'll put a picture
in here. I love the look of it when it's wrapped around twice
and knotted in the front. I think
that looks super cute with those points.
This next pattern is by Zanette Knits and it is a
colorwork beanie. It's called the Encore Beanie.
It is a worsted weight stranded colorwork hat.
the size range on this pattern is great it's six sizes
from baby up to adult large and this hat is
worked top down and just has a really pretty color work during
a color work section and when I was
looking through the different project pages I noticed
that some people got really creative and
how many colors they use some just stuck to like two colors
so I feel like you can really get
creative with this and maybe even use like color shifting yarn through
that color work section
or a hand spun as well okay i actually purchased
this next pattern it is called the cottage pumpkin
patch set and this is a pattern by stone knits i saw
her talk about this on youtube and i think
maybe her most recent youtube episode
if i find it i will link it down below but it is the cutest
set of socks colorwork socks now i have talked about
my love hate relationship with colorwork
socks I love color work
but on socks I've always had a problem with getting them to fit over my
heel now I will say that these last pair
of color work socks that I just recently knit I was
encouraged by many of my viewers to try knitting them inside out
so I did that and let me tell you
I had no problem at all getting that second sock up over
my heel I was so excited I felt like my
world was opened up and so I immediately got onto Ravelry
and I purchased this pattern from
Charlotte Stone. Now this pattern actually comes
with three different options for the pumpkin motif
and the color work charts.
There's two different pumpkin motifs and then she also gives a third
chart that is for a jack-o'-lantern pumpkin
so that's really cute if you want to do something
for like Halloween or if you just want to stick
to the fall theme you can just knit yourself some
pumpkins now because it is mid-October already I plan
on actually making these just a very fall
inspired pair and I'm going to make them
a little bit shorter than I normally would because
it is mid-October I want to make these though for Thanksgiving
because pumpkin pie pumpkins all of
that and so that's my plan I'm going to knit myself
a pair of these with the pumpkin motif
and I just am so looking forward
to this I'm already thinking about my yarn choices
And so I definitely wanted to include this pattern in the roundup.
I have two more really cute
Colorwork socks that I want to share with you guys
And the next one is called the quilt block sock set
and this is by kelly spurlock
So this is a fingering weight. All of these actually
are fingering weight sock patterns. This one is knit
Cuffed down and then you use
a she wrote forethought slash afterthought heel
And she provides video tutorials
for that if you've never done that before
I recently just did a forethought heel for the very first time
and it was not hard at all. It
opened up my world in sock knitting again.
So this, this pattern actually includes six different
charts that you can use to mix and match your color work.
So isn't that fun? And then it also
comes in six different sizes from toddler to men's large.
So this is another really fun color work
sock pattern and then we have another one that's
a new release from Annia Juti I hope I'm not
mispronouncing her name that there's
a good possibility I am though these are called the
Folk Flora socks and this pattern comes
in three different sizes I'm assuming all adult sizes
and they are cuffed down with a really cute picot folded edge they
also have a heel flap
and gusset and then a star toe
and there is a coupon code that offers 20% off on the purchase
of this she has that written on the Ravelry project page
and that that is good you can go
there if you're interested in purchasing
and using that coupon code I'm not going to give the code
here on this video but that code is good through the end of November
so you still have lots of time
as of today all right at this point we're going
to move away from accessories and we're going to
move into garments and the first one that I want
to talk about is a poncho now ponchos must be
coming back I am personally not a huge poncho fan
but my daughter started talking about wanting a
knitted poncho and then I started seeing things
online about people crocheting and knitting
themselves ponchos so they must be back
my favorite things knitwear released a poncho pattern this
month. It is called the Norma poncho.
It is a big cozy oversized poncho with fringe. It uses
Aran weight yarn and size US 6 or 4 millimeter needles
and you need about 630 to 850 yards of
yarn to make this. It comes in five different sizes.
I like the high collar on it and then I
also really love the fringe at the bottom.
It's very reminiscent of the 70s I think. I feel like
all ponchos are very reminiscent of the 70s for some reason
but uh yeah i wanted to include this
one because i know that ponchos are a thing now they're coming back
so i wanted to include one
of those on this list okay our first pullover
is a new pattern by Tori U, it's called the
Rhinebeck Raglan, this is an all-over textured sweater
which i love the look of it, it looks
very scrumptiously soft and squishy, it
is um it's made using worsted weight yarn and it comes in
nine different sizes from 34 inch bust up
to 66 inch bust, it is knit top down using a compound
raglan and then it also has pretty strong raglan lines
which is another nice feature of it
it also has a folded collar
and um yeah i think that's it on this one, i just really like that
nice all-over texture of this pullover if you want
an autumn specific whimsical sweater then
i have one for you, this is called the Pumpkin Patch
and this is a pattern by Renarde and Dormy
it is knit with worsted weight yarn
and it comes in 11 sizes from 31 and a half up to 59 inch bust
it is knit top down, you can include optional German short row shaping
in it and it has this
cute stranded colorwork pumpkin patch motif
that I just absolutely love I feel like if I was a
faster sweater knitter, I'm not, I don't think I'm very fast
at knitting sweaters but if I was I
would for sure knit this because I would I think it would
be so fun to have this sweater to wear
in October and November I just love
the little pumpkin motif, it's extremely cute and she does
oh another nice little feature
is that there's some matching color work you do down at the
sleeves before you start the ribbing and then she
also includes instructions for two different
lengths the cropped length as well as a more classic length okay
then we have the Daydreamer
sweater series by Sara Nordlund
and i say it's a sweater series because she has written and
released this month a pattern for both a pullover
as well as a cardigan both of these are knit with
DK weight yarn. They both have a more boxy fit.
The pullover has drop shoulder and a folded neck
band and then both of these sweaters are all over lace.
They have an all over lace motif which is
fully charted. I do remember I think watching
a podcast episode put out by Sunshine Stitching
Studio or it might have been on Instagram.
I can't remember now that memory is a little bit fuzzy but
it was maybe earlier in the summer
and I remember this particular designer talking about this
jumper that was currently in the works
and it is out now it is called the Hawthorne jumper
it is a DK weight sweater it is top down comes
in seven different sizes you're doing the back
and front separately and then you join in the round under the arms
and then the rest is done
in the round and it's an all over diamond texture
and it has a split hem and I actually really like
the silhouette of this. It's more of like a boxy
and cropped and then it also looks like the sleeves
are a bit more full or balloonish
and I really really like that as well. I added this next cardigan
to my Ravelry favorites like the moment I saw it released.
I think it was actually the first one
for me to move to this particular bundle
and this is the home body this is a cardigan by alicia
plumer this almost looks like a hybrid between a cardigan
and a jacket to me i like the stand-up
collar i like all the like the buttons down
the front it is knit in dk weight yarn and her sizing
is extremely i think it's very inclusive it's 38 inches up
to an 82 inch bust it is not it is knit
bottom up and it has a modified drop sleeve
and then there's options for different pockets they're
all done i believe it's after afterthought pockets
okay we've got two patterns left both of them are
colorwork sweaters the first one is called the Mulan sweater
and this pattern is by cat sejod
green it is a worsted weight stranded colorwork i almost want
to say it's all over colorwork but
there's like a little tiny band on both the body
and the sleeves that is just solid stockinette
in your main color but it's mostly all over colorwork
and it is absolutely gorgeous. So it's
actually inspired by the mullein flower
which here in western Pennsylvania we have a lot of mullein
along our trails and such in the summertime
and I can totally get that vibe from looking at the
colorwork totally looks like a mullein flower
so this is knit top down with the circular yoke of
course it does have some short row shaping
and it comes in nine sizes also very generously sized
from 33 inches the whole way up to 71 inches okay
and then the last pattern is called the Vigna
sweater this is a pattern by Olga Patana Designs
and it is another worsted weight stranded color
work yoked sweater. It comes in 10 sizes 32 inch to 68 inch bust
and it is also a top down stranded
color work sweater and it also has short row shaping.
She does not say what inspired this
color work but it is very botanical looking
in my opinion if you look at the actual colorwork
section of the sweater which I am very drawn to botanical color work.
That brings us to the end
