AI GeneratedThe speakers discuss the New York Knicks' recent championship, focusing on the design of their championship rings and the unexpected nature of their victory. They analyze the team's roster construction, Jalen Brunson's financial sacrifices to build a winning team, and the likelihood of the Knicks repeating their success compared to teams built for long-term dynasties.
You just said, Greg, you had a chance on social media.
You've seen the ring
and what it looks like there for the ceremony tonight there
for the Knicks championship from last season.
Yeah, it seems like all these teams are doing the ring within the ring,
so that's not new.
Yeah.
But it seems like the ring within the ring is a ring,
and then on top of the ring where you can go
into it is Madison Square Garden.
So it's like that's the second part of the ring.
Yeah, these teams do an amazing job with this stuff, as they should.
I mean, winning a championship in sports is just nothing like it.
These franchises are being sold for billions of dollars, Joe.
I mean, the San Diego Padres were just
sold for how many billions of dollars?
I mean, the one thing in this country that it's not debatable,
with all the things that are debated with politics and everything else,
is that live sports is just still the king.
you know i mean the rights fees
and and everything that goes around with it it's so many people
want to see their teams and so many people want to see their teams win
so i am all for however
teams want to celebrate winning that championship
because it is just so hard to do and uh you know
so you know obviously credit to the knicks
and everything that they're doing i personally
you know watching the season last year play out my father-in-law
and my brother-in-law are both
big knicks fans so hearing them talk about it like all
the time you know of course i'm i i'm
not like immune to the nba i'm watching the finals
and all that stuff but i really never thought the
Knicks were going to win the championship until
it got like halfway through the NBA playoffs and
I was like oh man I guess this is possible
but going into the playoffs there was not one piece
of me that thought that Oklahoma City wasn't
wasn't winning like I like I I was doing shows
every day where Oklahoma City was on pace
to win like 75 games oh yeah it's just a matter of who
loses to Oklahoma City and then
when they lost I'm like wow I guess anything can happen and and
yeah look I think going into this year the Knicks
are going to be one of the favorites but I think
Joe again please correct me with the NBA
when I'm wrong if I'm wrong about any of this stuff
but it's rare to go into a season where I think
automatically people don't think the team that
won the championship is going to win again it feels like
that with the Knicks it feels like
everyone thinks somebody else is going to win usually
the team that wins is like they're the
defending champs and you think that there's
a good chance that they could win again uh i mean
certainly the Knicks are one of the favorites
to win the East and they have a really good shot to
do it but I I guess because a lot of people didn't see
that coming last year maybe that's why going
into the season a lot of folks think again it would be OKC
or San Antonio or something or even
Philadelphia for that matter well yeah yeah I
listen Nick fans will tell you that you know
They're expecting a three-peat here.
But the reality is the Knicks are not –
this was not a team built for a dynasty
in any way, shape, or form.
But they were a team that was put together,
and a lot of people don't realize
that Jalen Brunson, he took a huge pay cut a couple of years ago
in order to be able to – because he was doing max deal,
and he took way less money in order to give the Knicks a chance
to sign some guys like Cat and Ananobi
and bring guys in there that he wanted to win.
And now that he won, I promise you he will
never take another pay cut for the rest of
his career with the Knicks.
So, but it paid off.
And that's exactly what this was.
They were more than happy, I think,
to win the championship, do it for, you know, New
York, great story, but this was not,
this is not OKC where Sam Presti and company built
To be a dynasty for the next 10 years
or like Golden State, like no, no, no.
