They're still putting the numbers together. We are at Bottles and Cans.
It's a liquor store in Forest Glen and it is one of up
to two dozen businesses that were hit by smash and grab burglars.
They still have some repairs to do. Their windows are boarded up.
This is just one of them. Here's the mess. The repairs,
insurance issues, all extra expenses to owners who are just trying
to do business here in Forest Glen, Portage Park and in Albany Park.
Security cameras at Bottles and Cans caught clear views of the
crew that police say hit multiple businesses last week.
They say three to four offenders threw a
brick through the front door or a window of a business.
They enter, take the cash register or
merchandise and take off in a red Kia.
Police say they struck restaurants, coffee shops and a
hardware store. Bottles and Cans is located at busy,
well-lit intersection and this is their
second burglary this year.
It's just awful because now everyone's going through it and that's not
good for any of us because
then you know we have higher crime rates which also affects our
insurance and it also makes people question
if they can even walk around in the neighborhood
your businesses are at a normal hour
and it's it's just it's concerning it's concerning for
everybody and Carly Cat says she feels fortunate
because the damage wasn't worse in other places
it apparently was now these burglaries happened in the 14th 16th
and 17th police districts
We are hearing now that that stolen red Kia was located,
but it didn't have any fingerprints
or clues on it.
And so the crew is still out there.
Police are asking the public for any information
that can help lead to an arrest.
Reporting live, I'm Joni Lum, Fox Chicago.
Okay, Joni, thank you.
