If you find yourself struggling with dips,
it is probably two-part issue,
skill issue and a strength issue.
Now for dips, the primary movers
are gonna be your triceps and your chest.
So if you have underdeveloped triceps and chest,
stand by and I'm gonna show you some beginner exercises
that you can do to build up to being able
to do your first dip and your first set of dips.
But before we get into all that,
let's just explain how the dips should look
and the various forms that there are for doing dips
because you can change it up to emphasize the chest more
or the triceps more, depending on how you do them.
Now, first mistake that I see a lot is hand placement.
People do it with this bent wrist like this
and they try to dip with their hands like this
because they're inexperienced.
You want to have a neutral straight wrist on that dip bar.
You don't want to have your wrist bent back like this
like you would on pushups.
You grab the bar, it sits into your hand
just like when you do pull-ups
and you're going to dip with a straight arm.
So make sure you're not dipping, holding it like this.
You're holding it like this.
Once you have that proper grip,
get those arms straight and neutral,
coming down like so.
I'm moving mainly my triceps.
I'm not getting much of a stretch
or contraction in my chest, a little bit.
Now, if you want more chest,
what you do is you lean into it and you get deep.
You get those arms back, press up and get that chest.
Both forms are gonna use triceps and chest.
You can just emphasize one or the other a little bit more
based on how you position your body
and the angle in which you do your dips.
Now let's talk about the beginner exercises
that you can do to get your first dip.
First, obviously push-ups,
because push-ups, the primary movers
are your triceps and your chest.
So if you just practice push-ups,
really good push-ups, proper form and technique,
these will build up those same muscles
that you need to have strength in to do dips.
Now, if you're just about there,
you just can't get it yet,
you can practice negative dips.
Same thing, you're gonna get into the top of the dip,
get up and then slowly come down.
You might not be able to press up from here,
but you're still at least engaging the muscles
in a negative motion from the top of the rep,
keeping that form the same as you would
if you were doing regular ones.
So practice your negative dips.
This will be the one exercise that will get you closest
to achieving that first dip.
So what's the point of even learning dips?
Well, when you're doing this exercise,
you are basically pushing about 100% of your body weight
using your chest and triceps.
Whereas with a pushup,
you're only pushing like 50, 60% of your body weight
because your legs are touching the ground.
So you're only pushing the upper torso in that pushup rep.
Here, you got gravity forcing you
and all of your weight down onto your triceps and chest.
So it is a perfect exercise
for overloading your calisthenics pushups
and moving into something harder to build those triceps
that chest more and then obviously once you get really good
at body weight dips you just add
weight to them and overload them that way throw
on a backpack throw on a weight vest and bam
now you're doing an even harder version of the dips
to keep pushing your muscles to grow and
adapt and become stronger
and stronger if you guys enjoyed the video let me know what
other exercises you want me to teach you how
to do and i will make a tutorial for you
