薛瑞福演說讚美台海巡同框 盼日本加入合作

繼續聚焦印太安全 美國國防部前印太安全事務助理部長 現任智庫主席薛瑞福 此刻正在臺灣進行訪問 今天他和臺灣國安高層一起出席了研討會 並發表演說 他除了讚揚美臺海巡同框 也強調希望美國臺灣日本 可以共同抵禦中共的灰色侵略 另外他還提到說 美國110億美元的對臺軍售 將有助於提升臺灣的自我防衛能力 I think one of the most troubling developm ents of the last few years that I've seen is the idea of a persistent postcard patrol east of Taiwan This is highly destabilizing if they continue to operationalize this law enforcement mission I was grateful to see that AIT did release photos of our coast guards cooperating with one another but in fact our work has to go well beyond that We need to think about U hexercising how we work with the Japanese for example to exercise on a corridor opening and a counter blockade operation that would run from Jiulong to Ya naguni something along those lines We need to exercise that for preparedness but we need to exercise that for deterrence too So really putting these concepts of operation that are fit for purpose for emerging Challenges from China I think the Trump administration's approval last December of an 11 billion dollars was a billion dollar arms package was very significant i think the uh ongoing training which we don't talk a lot about publicly so i won't say any more about it uh is very very significant something that took us a long time to bring online but i think it's having impact not just on capabilities but on morale on uh professionalism i i've seen some of this
