The end of LIV Golf 1.0 has been in the news a lot lately,
but the rise of a former LIV player
is just beginning. I'm talking about Eugenio Chacarra,
who won the DP World India Championship
for his third DP World Tour title this season.
And with his latest victory, the 26-year-old
leapfrogged over Rory McIlroy
and Patrick Reed to number one in the season-long race to the
standings. Although leapfrogging is probably
the wrong term considering the broken toe he's still
battling. Ouch. Chacarra recently shared
this gnarly photo of the painful injury and, well,
That's more like Eugenio Chacarra. Am I right? Sorry, couldn't resist.
Anyway, who hasn't stubbed their toe
in the middle of the night? It's one of the worst
feelings in the world that hasn't kept Chacarra
from becoming one of the best golfers in the
world. Talk about grit.
It's also been a worldly journey just to get here.
The Spaniard originally
attended Wake Forest, Go Deacs,
and won ACC Freshman of the Year in 2019. He wound up
transferring to Oklahoma State where he became
an All-American before turning pro and joining
LIV in 2022. He picked up his first pro win
on the then Saudi-backed circuit later that year,
but after quickly earning $16 million,
Chacarra decided he wanted to play the more traditional
tours and work his way up.
He started over on the Asian Tour, winning in 2023 before earning
his first DP World Tour title in 2025.
And now after winning his fourth DP World Tour title,
he's looking forward to joining the PGA Tour in 2027.
So it looks like Ricky Fowler won't be the
only PGA Tour player wearing orange on Sundays.
And hopefully that toe is all better by the time
next season starts.
