A massive manhunt is underway after
an argument turns deadly on a subway platform.
Police searching for a mass shooter
who gunned down a man at a train station over the weekend.
And welcome to The Noon, everyone. I'm Antoine Lewis.
48 hours after the shooting and the gunman is still at large.
Fox 5's Kelly Kennedy is in Midtown with our top story at noon.
And Kelly, bring us up to speed.
Yeah, Antoine, it's been almost 48 hours
and still no arrests in this shocking subway crime.
And you know, this isn't something
that happened at 3 o'clock in the morning.
It happened just before 1230 on a Saturday afternoon,
a time where people are out enjoying the weekends with their families.
This is a very busy subway station.
There are a lot of tourists here.
And the NYPD claims that this is actually the second safest year
in the transit system in the past 15 years, except for COVID.
But a lot of people I spoke to today
who were commuting say they don't buy it.
They say they don't feel safe
and they can't believe that the NYPD has not caught this guy yet.
Now, I did get one disturbing statistic from the NYPD this morning.
They tell me that six people have been murdered
in the transit system so far this year.
Now, that's compared to four at the same time last year.
So that's a 50 percent increase.
The latest victim, though, 26-year-old Daryl Rodriguez of the Bronx.
Police say he got into an argument with another man at the 53rd Street
and 7th Avenue subway station.
And then that argument escalated.
Rodriguez pulled out a gun and shot that man in the chest.
Now, the suspect took off. And again, two days later,
nearly 48 hours, police still searching for him.
We asked some subway riders whether they actually feel safe.
One woman told me she was actually here
when the shooting happened this weekend.
Just people running and a lot of, you know, a lot of chaos.
it was i mean i actually can't believe
that i'm here today i do not feel safe at all yeah no it's
very scary and it just seems more
and more like every day there's something that's happening so
something needs to be done something has to change
and more when my daughter and my wife
are out there and when i'm not with them
um yeah it makes me worry more about others than myself
really now police did put out photos
of this suspect just shortly after this crime happened
on Saturday. He was last seen wearing a red tracksuit.
He had on a black face mask and a
black backpack. Now, police tell us the shooting wasn't random,
but obviously they need the
public's help looking for this guy.
They are trying to find him. They're asking anyone with
any information to call Crime Stoppers.
That's the latest here in Midtown. Antoine, I'll send
it back to you. Kelly, thank you so much.
