I hope this walk through of my process is helpful! I am working on more videos where I explain what I am using and how I am using everything to create me pieces. In this video, I am doing a huge swipe and spin technique with some negative space! I really like the SheleeArt style and the way you can get some amazing cells without silicone. I am using a 20 inch wood circle and spinning on my cake stand with two yard stick to not only hold the wood circle, but to also create some long arms for spinning. I used both white and black cell activators and purple, pink and turquoise for my colors. I have another swipe and spin in the works that will hopefully turn out even better than this one!
The artist demonstrates a spin painting technique on a 20-inch wood circle. By combining specific paint mixtures, a swiping method with cell activators, and a rotating base, the artist creates a shimmering piece of art with distinct cells and intentional negative space.
Good morning everyone.
I am really excited for this painting today. I am
actually set up in my garage.
I am doing a 20 inch spin on a wood circle and so
to set up I have my cake stand underneath. I have two yardsticks taped
down and then I have my wood circle taped down
to the yardsticks. So I'll
I'll just show you really quickly what that looks like.
It actually spins pretty well.
It's not wobbly at all.
I'm hoping that with the weight of the wood,
nothing will move, but I wanted to try something larger.
So what I'm going to do this time around,
I'm going to swipe my colors and then spin.
And then next time, if it works out,
I might try and bring my hairdryer out
and see what I can do.
So I have my spatula.
Let me make sure that I'm in frame, yes I am.
I have my spatula and I also have some paper.
Sometimes it's a little bit easier
to swipe with the spatula, sometimes the paper works,
so I just
have both.
I have a few different canvases.
So I have a whole bunch of my base paint mixed up.
I just put it in a larger container
so that I could pour it and then close it up as needed.
This is just an old GAC 800 container.
I'm glad I kept it because it's very useful for today.
I ran out of the large cups that I normally mix my paint in,
so I just mixed it in this
and have that.
For my first series of colors,
I have a turquoise, I have a magenta,
and I have a purple.
I've also added, I tried to match the colors as best as possible,
but I also added some
primary elements, color art pigments to each of these.
So once it's all dry,
I'm hoping that it will be really sparkly and have a nice shimmer
to it.
And I apologize in advance,
my air conditioner is running right now and you can kind of hear
that in the background.
So hopefully you can hear me just fine in this video.
I also have my cell activator.
I have some white and I do have some black.
I'm going to try both colors again while I swipe
and see what kind of cells I can create.
My last painting didn't have a lot of negative space,
and I'd like to see if I can keep some more negative space this time,
so I'm going to add less color before I swipe,
but we'll just pour that out.
Ooh, that container works really well.
I might just keep that for the future.
If I need to add more, I'm going to pick out,
I see a lump in there, so I'm just going to remove that.
I'm hoping that I put enough plastic down. I think I did.
I have about I have about nine feet wide
so hopefully that will be good enough if not I
guess I'll be mopping up my garage a little bit later
so I don't know which we're going to start
with purple and last time I added some really large bands
of color this time I'm going to try
and keep them a little bit smaller to hopefully keep some
of that white negative space and I think
spinning it out is going to be really interesting.
So we'll see how this works this time instead of
tilting.
Last time
and pour some
of my cell
activator down
just so I can
dip my swiping
tool in it. I'm going to do both white and black.
I think the black is going to show up better this
time because I don't have something so dark like
the Prussian blue. So I'll start off with my
spatula if I don't like the spatula I will switch to the paper
but if you can
see I have it on I just dipped it
in both colors at the same time I'm just
gonna go ahead swipe oh that is really
pretty really looks yeah so the black
and the white both worked out well
this time I'm gonna swipe a few more times
this time I
can adjust
move my piece
around
and swipe
one more
in there I'm
I'm gonna take a small piece of paper
and swipe right in the middle.
I don't like those colors right there.
We're gonna do,
there we go.
Swipe again.
I think both the black and the white
worked out well this time.
So, and just
a little more.
And
then
we
are
going
to
spin.
So I might have to tilt a little bit.
It looks like all the paint's kind of,
or I might keep spinning in opposite directions
to see what happens.
That's really fun though.
Oh, the way that these cells pulled out in here is pretty amazing.
We're going to go this way.
Try and draw that paint the other way.
And if I need to tilt a little bit, I'll tilt a little bit.
It's
really
fun.
I want to get
my hair in there.
So I'm not going to tilt that much, but I want
to tilt just slightly in this direction to fill in this part.
Oh, before I do that, I see a great big.
So we do have more negative space in this one.
I like that.
I'll try and tilt it this direction
so you can see there that's moving
a little bit I won't move it
too much but I just want
to get pull some
of that color over
that edge there we
go I'm going to take
the camera
down and I'll
get a nice
close-up angle
of all
the cells so I
am outside in
the beautiful
sunlight I wanted to just show this off it is all dry
the cells that I got in it were absolutely
amazing with the swiping and then spinning overall I really like the
colors really pretty so I just wanted
to say thank you I hope you enjoyed this
video if you have any questions
or comments please leave them down below I
hope you guys enjoyed
and I'll see you in the next one
