Fox 26 News at 9 starts now.
Good evening and thanks for joining us for Fox 26 News at 9.
I'm Karis Belger.
Well, it feels like we blinked
and early voting will kick off next week, Monday.
Fox 26's McKenna Earnhardt is in studio
with a look at what local voters need to know
before they head out to the polls.
McKenna?
Yeah, Karis, options are key when it comes to casting your ballot.
Early voting gives you a chance to beat the Election Day crowds,
which we all know can get pretty crowded right
so now if you aren't registered yet it is too late
to jump in for this midterm election that deadline's passed
but you can still get registered
ahead of the upcoming primary elections
so the good news in Texas once you register you're
registered for good the only time you need to re-register
or update your status is if you've
moved or if you've changed your name not sure
if your address is up to date you can check your
voter status online in just a few minutes through
your local county elections office or the state's
voter portal. Feel free to do your homework ahead of time
and bring notes. Just remember,
the state law strictly prohibits taking out cell phones
or tablets or cameras inside the polling
location. So if you want to bring a cheat sheet for candidates
or propositions, make sure it's
written down on good old-fashioned pen and paper.
Texas state legislature makes and creates laws
directly affect everyday Texans like yourself.
So voting for in the midterms, in city council,
in special elections is all important.
But I think statewide and city elections are more important
than federal elections.
And don't forget to bring a valid photo ID like a driver's license or
passport when you go.
Of course, we'll have all those details on our website and a whole lot
of election coverage when the time comes, Karis.
Thanks for those tips, McKenna.
