Incumbent Surrey mayor Brenda Locke concedes race

Surrey voters have definitely spoken, and if this was not what we had hoped for, certainly was not what we counted on, but I do want to congratulate the newly elected mayor and the incoming council. To all of them, they have earned the trust of the incredible, wonderful city of Surrey. The voters have truly spoken. I want to wish them every success as they take on the responsibility of leading our most incredible city of Surrey. Surrey deserves our full support, there is no doubt. So to my Surrey Connect team, thank you. Thank you, every one of you. To every one of our volunteers who knocked on doors, made calls, who stood with us through long days and late nights, thank you all. My expectation and belief in this city means more than I can ever say. This campaign was never about one person. It was about the future we wanted for our neighbours, our families, our children, and the very next generation of residents. To my husband, John, to our children, to my brother and sister-in-law who are here, thank you for all the love and all the support you've given me. Four years ago, the people of Surrey gave me the honor of serving as mayor. It has been the privilege of a lifetime. We did make progress in Surrey, great progress on housing, on infrastructure, on public safety, and the facilities that are growing in our city today. To every resident who put their faith in me, I am so deeply grateful. Thank you all. I will always love this city and remain committed to its success. Surrey is stronger than any single election, so let's keep working together for a community that we all call home. Thank you all and have a very good day.
